Hear interview with Dr. Duke Pesta as he opens our eyes to some very important details in this nationalized education system that is being implemented. He is a nationally renowned speaker that can connect the dots for us on how the National Sexuality Education Standards will come in to the schools. We will be speaking with him and other Education Activists such as Alice Linahan of Women on the Wall, Lisa Harris and Ann Eubank of Stop Common Core Alabama will be dropping in to give more perspectives. One of the topics we will comment is on the latest tentacle of this nationalized system--the Comprehensive Counseling Guidance Proposal which uses the ASCA National Model. According to Linda Murphy, a nationally renowned Educator/Activist, who has studied Dr. Bice's Comprehensive Counseling Guidance -- "This is a dangerous expansion of the authority of public schools into the private lives of students, which has never been allowed in American schools. This plan sets goals for changes in students’ emotions, feelings, attitudes, values and beliefs. The area educators call the "affective domain" (from Blooms Taxonomy)."
Parents need to awaken as according to Mental Health Expert, Joan Landes, this is BIG. Come learn and share the truths so you can Stand in the Gap for precious children NOW!

The Iraq War. Was an armed conflict in Iraq that consisted of two phases. The first was an invasion of Iraq starting on March 20, 2003 by an invasion force of the United States and allies that led to the end of Ba'athist Iraq. It was followed by a longer phase of fighting, in which an insurgency emerged to oppose the occupying forces and the newly formed Iraqi government. Roughly 96.5 percent of the casualties suffered by the U.S.-led coalition were suffered during the second phase, rather than the initial invasion. The U.S. completed its withdrawal of military personnel in December 2011, during the ninth year of the war. However, the insurgency is ongoing and continues to cause thousands of fatalities.
"All people with disabilities shall have the option to design, control and direct their own services and funding." This is the aim of the Person-Driven Services Project which is funded by the PA Developmental Disabilities Council and managed by the Institute on Disabilities at Temple University. Join us for a discussion on person-driven services and supports with Kristin Ahrens, Policy Director for the Institute on Disabilities. We will talk about what we mean by “person-driven services and supports” and a give summary of the research on this model of service delivery. We will explain the work being done through the cross-disability Person Driven Services Project.
Many people who want to direct their own services have expressed that they need support to direct their own services - help with things like recruiting and managing workers. Many people have also expressed the need for more flexibility in terms of what the funding for services and supports will cover. This is where the Supports Broker and Cash and Counseling can be important for real opportunities for self-direction. We will talk in detail about the role of the Supports Broker and what is happening to make Supports Brokers available. Cash and Counseling (known in PA as "Services My Way") will also be discussed as a possible way to offer more flexibility for what service funding can purchase.
PA Independent Living Radio Show is brought to you every Friday at 12:00 pm EDT/EST by The Arc of Luzerne County. Please consider a donation in support of our work to help improve the quality of life for people with Intellectual and Developmental Disabilities and their families.
