Masterfully “Cool”: An album unlike any other by
Bob James and Nathan East
“The New Cool,” an expansive acoustic offering centered on scholarly jazz piano and bass duets, will be released September 18, a first from the GRAMMY®-honored artists and long-time collaborators.
Nashville, Tennessee (7 July 2015): Albums just aren’t made like the way “The New Cool” was made. Yamaha Entertainment Group label president Chris Gero put legendary keyboardist Bob James and master bassist Nathan East in the recording studio, equipped them with state-of-the-art Yamaha gear and gave them free reign to create. Recorded entirely in Nashville, the long-time collaborators emerged with an unexpected and audacious collection of original compositions plus a few handpicked classics, an acoustic jazz outing that will make you forget everything you thought you knew about these GRAMMY®-recognized artists best known as contemporary jazz luminaries. The disc produced by Gero, James and East will be released September 18.
“The New Cool” unfolds much in the way the meticulously-crafted project was conceived. The germ begins organically with a couple of intimate James and East duets. Pastoral piano wanderings explore the outer perimeter of straight-ahead jazz where they peruse, mirror and engage with meandering bass lines. In fact, more than half of the record’s compositions written by James and/or East are sparsely-produced, probing piano and bass sojourns.
If you are reading this - and you have read other biographical information that your show host has written about hundreds of artists, then this will take you by surprise. I am totally freaked out. LOL!!! Because Nathan East is something else ENTIRELY.
Over three decades of support for household names. A few - let's alphabetize: Barbra Streisand, Eric Clapton, Daft Punk (Grammy Awards here, pay attention!), Herbie Hancock, Phil Collins, Stevie Wonder, Toto, Whitney Houston....still breathing? Oh, I KNOW, y'all! This is what I'm SAYING - this man is a ROCK of mass appeal. Genre jumping, bass busting, talent. Quincy Jones has said: "He's so talented it's ridiculous!"
A little background so yers truly can calm down. Born in Philadelphia, Nathan was four when his family (eight kids!) moved to San Diego. Nathan studied cello first, then became interested in bass when he was 14. His influences: Mingus and Ron Carter. Electric: Paul McCartney and Chuck Rainey.
On the road with Barry White when he was 16, his resume just grew from THERE. Multiple awards, soundtracks that are too numerous to mention, co-founding Fourplay, an online electric bass school, an accomplished magician as well as everything else just discussed - and - drumroll, please: over 2,000 credits to his name. Honest to God, one of the most recorded Bass players in musical history.
The reason for this visit from the esteemed Nathan East on 9/1: his partnership with Fourplay member, Bob James. Their astonishing project, "The New Cool" is about to drop. THIS host has dropped already, hearing it! Music to captivate and haunt, it's the crown jewel within the Yamaha Family, the company that is sponsoring this golden event.
What a thrill to bring you a glimpse into Nathan East. Second hour. Get your seat EARLY :)
We have an exclusive interview with Nathan East. He is a member of smooth jazz quartet Fourplay and has recorded, performed and co-written songs with performers such as Eric Clapton, Joe Satriani, Phil Collins,Stevie Wonder, Toto, Daft Punk, and Herbie Hancock.
We interviewed East in San Diego about his career. You can't miss this interview!
The Funkiest Bassist Ever!!! Releasing his FIRST album...and it is HOT!!! A Non-stop celebration !!
What is a Watchman? – By Nathan Leal
Today, we are living at the very beginnings of pivotal events that are going to hit this world. The financial markets have become erratic. The Chinese financial world is collapsing. Their stock market is collapsing. Our own DOW stock market went down over 1200 points the last week, which is the highest in history. So, the rumblings are occurring right now. The foundations are shaking.
Also, the oil markets are becoming very unsettled. And I’m not going to talk a lot about the coming crash in this program because I have some very, very important things we’re going to discuss.
But, folks, we are living in days that we cannot afford to be sidetracked and distracted from the things of God. We need to make sure. I want to make sure, ladies and gentlemen, that you are getting the proper information from me as a watchman of God.
There are a few prophetic warnings that I need to talk about and I plan to. Some of the warnings that I have received over the past few years, are taking place right now. Some of them have begun. Some are almost finished.
Keelung’s Miaokou Night Market has a reputation of being one of the most popular night market’s in Taiwan. The Main street where the Dianji temple first started drawing patrons to the area is lined with food stalls serving some of the most popular dishes and snacks found in Keelung.
This is a very tourist friendly night market with translations in Japanese and English, some are loose in their descriptions. Honestly lots of great tasting food but I wouldn’t consider alot of it nutritious.
One of my favorite stalls serves oil rice, a sticky style rice with mushrooms and a delicious soup served with lumps of fresh crab meat. Being a port city there is an abundant selection of seafood and other interesting tasty treats.
Further south, in central Taiwan lies the city of Taichung. The climate is drier in this part of the island making for a perfect environment for night markets. Taichung is world-famous as the place where bubble tea was invented.
If you ask most Taiwanese people where their favorite place to go for a weekend is many will say Tainan. This city located in Southern Taiwan was once the capital of the island before the Japanese began their 50 year rule of the country and moved operations to Taipei. There are lovely Japanese colonial era buildings everywhere but most people come to Tainan for the food.
This is the Anping area of Tainan with the oldest streets on the island. People travel from all over Taiwan just to visit and try the many special snacks only made here, like one of my favorites, Coffin Toast. Excerpts from "Taiwan-Discovering The Beautiful Isle's Food Paradise".
