Sleep Paralysis: The Ultimate Nightmare Part I

    in Paranormal

Part 1 of a  4-part series:  The series is to inform the listener of the science, legends, cultural aspects, and paranormal theory regarding this age-old terror of the night.

Tj, your "ghost host with the most" delves into the basics of sleep paralysis in this brief but informative episode.  Although a major complication for many, sleep paralysis is generally on the check list for major sleep disorders, such as Narcolepsy.  In other words, it is not generally considered a sleep disorder in and of itself.  Scientific data is sparce and easy to explain as a particular brain chemical is responsible for paralysing the body to shield one from acting out dreams.  This chemical is the key in scientific explanations.  Many people suffer from this disorder and go through life without a clue as to what it is.  Many are amazed whenever the subject is brought up and the conditions described.  Statistically, 15 percent of the global population (a very rough number), have had at least one occurrence of sleep paralysis.  However, seemingly much more is involved than just being stuck in paralysis.  Some describe visible demons.  Others describe a heaviness on their chests.  Some even believe that they are stuck in between dimensions.  Frighteningly, most have one thing in common:  That is,  that sleep paralysis is the most terrifying experience of their lives.
