Tonight's special guest is Cheri Roberts from Lincoln City, Oregon. Cheri is a prolific journalist, who suffered many forms of (sexual, emotional and physical) abuse as a child and her series offers voices from other adult survivors supported by leading experts on the topic of pedophilia, incest and molestation. Cheri is a weekly talk-show host and producer for "Challenging the Rhetoric" (#CTR) every Wednesday. She also hosts a special First Thursdays series called, Sickness of Silence (#SOS) addressing childhood sexual abuse. The talk show description explains, "The culture of silence lives on in every generation molding each like the one that came before it. Silence enables abuse, but our words have always held the power to stop it. It is our inability to listen to and share uncomfortable truths that have allowed families to maintain their semblance of normalcy." Cheri suffered abuse as a child, but most notably was sexually abused by several uncle's and a couple of her mother's boyfriends. The sexual abuse began at the age of 3 when Cheri's uncle and aunt became her legal guardians amidst the drug-fueled backdrop of America's sexual revolution. Cheri has spoken openly on the topic of her abuse for decades and feels the shaming of the abuser is also the shaming of the child. As she says, "Shame is what keeps secrets." Outside of her personal life, Cheri is a much endorsed writer, investigative journalist, coach and marketer. As a freelance writer and prominent activist, Cheri lives her life “out-loud” challenging the system with her back turned against the status quo of the failed corporate media.

Speaking the truth to your family.
Telling your family that you were molested as a child is about the hardest part of breaking your silence. Many of us were molested by a family member who is respected and loved by most. You will begin to stack the reasons and excuses as to why you can’t or shouldn’t tell your family in your head and it sounds very reasonable in your head, but you know that it has to be done.
Breaking your silence to someone you trust is just opening the old infected wound and letting the poison out, but as adults we all know that our wound is not going to truly heal if we don’t let the doctor cut it open and clean it out completely. We are adults that were traumatized as children. We know better now. We are not little boys and girls and we have to set the example for others and show ourselves that we deserve being healthy and getting healing. We have to refuse to allow our molesters have power over us another day! You have to stop looking over your shoulder and walking on egg shells. This is what happened and it was not your fault and it is time to experience your life as it should be!

How do we show them that school is not a right now job, but the foundation of your future? How do we keep them in school?
Despite making up just 13% of the population, blacks commit around half of homicides in the United States. Where do we start? Turning criminals into students and upstanding citizens sounds like an impossible charge.. but it's possible; we have to believe it is, but how? How is it possible?
Also, how do we become better young black fathers, realistically and perceptionally?
Entrepreneur Marquis Coates and Young Activist Caleb Jackson will be rejoining us for a compelling panel discussion!

Many who come for Restoration Prayer Ministry do not know the extent of their prayer needs. They aren't necessarily hiding anything; they simply are not aware of their root issues. Many do not know that their identity has been fractured by trauma and abuse until they begin sharing memories with a safe person. Intelligent little children have an amazing ability to fracture their identity in order to store overwhelming painful memories in different parts. It might be decades before these parts begin to surface and ask for healing. Hear a survivor share how shocked she was to learn that her identity was fractured.
