Happy St. Patrick's Day, and Let's Go Mets!
Alas, the final weekend of Winter is at hand, leaving us a mere 17 days away from the New York Mets regular season opener in Kansas City against the Royals.
Tonight, our 128th episode of the Rising Apple Report will review highlights of the first 13 Spring Training games played to date.
We'll also delve into Sandy Alderson's remaining financial ability to enhance this year's roster. One thing, however, seems certain - Ruben Tejada will likely not be part of it, as he was released. And so, we'll take another look at the team's potential back-up shortstop situation.
We'll also discuss Matt Harvey's slider, reasonable expectations for David Wright and Neil Walker, if Jacob deGrom's symbolic refusal to sign his contract should be of any concern, and much more.
Rising Apple staff writers Michael Lecolant and Rich Sparago will host this evening's show starting at 9pm (ET) sharp, featuring special guest John Pielli of the Passed Ball Show and MTR Media.
And of course, you're always welcome to call (646-929-0337) and join the conversation.
What sluggish start?
After closing to within one game of the Washington Nationals, the red hot New York Mets are taking a well deserved rest Thursday evening before resuming their march on first place Friday against the visiting San Francisco Giants.
This afternoon's Phillies victory over the Nationals, however, put the Mets just one-half game out of first place. And so the Rising Apple Report therefore decided to kick things up another notch tonight in their place.
How hot are they? The Mets returned to Citi Field on Monday after a victorious 7-2 road trip. They're winners of 11 of their last 13 games, and in the midst of a 6-game winning streak via consecutive series sweeps over the Braves and Reds.
Rising Apple staff writers Michael Lecoland, Sam Maxwell, and Rich Sparago, will review player performances and the Mets' successful, albeit unfinished month of April, and ponder where they go from here.
The 131st episode of the Rising Apple Report kicks off Thursday evening at 9:00pm ET sharp!
As always, they welcome you to phone the show at 646-929-0337, and join their spirited, never ending Metsian discussion.
The first eight games of the regular season are in the books.
While the Amazin's travel to Cleveland to play their opponent, the Rising Apple crew will be busy this evening reviewing the week that was.
Good pitching, lack of hitting, and losing to the Marlins - sound familiar? You're not alone.
Several solid pitching performances indeed have gone for not, as the offense continues struggling to sync up. Terry Collins additionally registered his first cringe worthy moment, while the Miami Marlins came, saw, and did what they do best - agitate Mets fans.
Yes, for better or worse, Baseball is back!
Rich Sparago and Michal Lecolant will try to make sense of it all, this Thursday evening on the 129th episode of the Rising Apple Report starting at 9:00pm (ET) sharp.
A Gal For All Seasons - aka The Coop - will be their featured guest. And of course, Rising Apple invites you to call 646-929-0337 to join the Metsian conversation.
Pitchers and Catchers is finally here! In what was easily the shortest offseason we can remember, the Mets, playing baseball on November 1, did not make us wait as long this time around, and it's time to bask in all the images bouncing back from Port St. Lucie...
Mike Lecolant, Rich Sparago, J.T. Teran, Danny Abriano and possibly others, gather to talk what's on our minds as the Mets players start to convene...What's with all the depth around here?! Where on the diamond will Kevin Plawecki and/or Travis d'Arnaud get reps? Do we even need to get another outside bullpen arm or are we good going in house? So many questions to discuss....and it's all because Mets baseball is segueing back!
So, join us at 9pm ET for the Rising Apple Report!
The Rising Apple Report is back with its 126th episode!
Along with host Sam Maxwell, and Rising Apple writers Rich Sparago and Mike Lecolant, the crew welcomes former Mets farmhand J.J. Newman to the program!
We'll first discuss J.J's professional baseball background, as well as get his insights to what the spring training complex is like this time of year. We'll then discuss the happenings of current Mets camp: Curtis Granderson's pink eye, Cespedes' cars and horses, the new middle infield, etc.
And we'll discuss the players to wear number 26 in Mets history, as well as briefly detail the 1926 NYNL baseball seasons.
So, join us at 9pm ET for the latest edition of the Rising Apple Report!
The 2015 Winter Meetings are upon us. Coming off of their fun and improbable run to the championship of the National League, the Mets have several decisions to make that will impact the look of the 2016 team. How will they replace Yoenis Cespedes and Daniel Murphy? Is Ben Zobrist the answer? Is it wise to put everything else on hold, pending Zobrist's decision on where he will play next year?
How will the Mets handle center field? Is Denard Span the answer as the left-hand hitting part of a platoon with Juan Lagares? Should the Mets target a non-platoon option, such as Dexter Fowler? And then there's the bullpen. Having lost out on Darren O'Day and Joakim Soria, who is the current target? Jerry Blevins? Tony Sipp?
There are so many more decisions to make, with whether or not to bring Bartolo Colon back among them. So, let's try to sort it all out. Please join me, Rich Sparago, as I host the Rising Apple report tonight, December 7th, at 9 pm. I'll be joined by Sam Maxwell, Danny Abriano, and possibly Mike Lecolant. Greg Price from Faith and Fear in Flushing will be our guest, and we may even have another surprise or two.
You can access the show by the link below. Or you can give us a call at 646-929-0337.
