The Single Mother Diaries: Author Aria Craig

    in Books

Meet Author Aria Craig: Raised in a south suburb of Chicago with two siblings by a single mother, Aria Craig lived a life full of successes and challenges  - from the zeal to strive, receive higher education, and succeed to being bullied, sexual abused and fatherless. While learning from her mom's experiences, she chose to make wiser decisions once becoming a single parent in her early 20's. Aria was determined to excel against stigmas and stereotypes. With a spirit of tenacity and character of trailblazing, she pursued a Bachelors in Technical Management and Masters in Business Administration while raising her son by encouraging his leadership abilities, talents and victories.

Even though her journey was in finance, she always found joy and therapy in writing. From the praises and compliments that she received about parenting her son, Aria decided to write a series of books entitled The Single Mother Diaries - empowerment tools that offer tips on single, divorced and co-parenting strategies. She has mentored other single parents with making wiser decisions that benefit them and the development of their children (of all ages). Aria is now married with three beautiful step-children and has established a wonderful newfound connection with her father and paternal family.

The Passion of Christ & Good Friday & Resurrection Weekend

    in Radio

Join Chaplain Jones, Nancy Smith, LaShanda Lewis, Patrina Smalls and Crystal Bates on this week's topic.

the Passion (translation of Greek π?σχειν paschein, 'to suffer' is the short final period in the life of Jesus covering his visit to Jerusalem and leading to his execution by crucifixion, an event central to Christian beliefs.

It begins with his triumphal entry into Jerusalem and includes his Last Supper and Agony in the Garden and his arrest and trial. Those parts of the four Gospels that describe these events, as well as the non-canonical Gospel of Peter, are known as the "Passion narratives". In the liturgical calendar, the Passion is commemorated in Holy Week, beginning on Palm Sunday and ending on Easter Saturday. (wikipedia definition)

CYNTHIA HOLIDAY - EXCLUSIVE INTERVIEW- TUES, MAR, 31 2015 - 7:00 pm PST

    in Music

She's not Billie, not Judy, not Jennifer, not Carmen, not Nancy, it's Cynthia Holiday!

Cynthia Holiday is a real crowd pleaser and her renditions of straight-ahead jazz, blues and pop standards are full of swing, improvisation and soul. Clearly, singing live before an audience is where she feels most comfortable.

Kevin Mahogany says, "I met Cynthia many years ago when I used to frequent various jam sessions in Harlem clubs. I was struck by her ability to quickly command the stage. Cynthia has fantastic stage presence and it's time for her music to be heard."

Cynthia says "I love the up-and-close feeling of performing in small, intimate venues like SMOKE or Showmans Jazz Club in NYC. I also enjoy the thrill of performing for an audience of 10,000 + people at outdoor events like the Harlem Jazz & Blues Festival or Hartford Jazz Festival." Following her performance, the Hartford Courier's music review said of Cynthia "She may have been unfamiliar to the audience, but Holiday quickly won over the crowd with her blues-soaked swing and charming banter."

Since the 2008 release of her debut album, All The Way, on the Miles High Records Label, Cynthia Holiday has made new fans and friends in the US and internationally. Most recently she served as a judge in the 2013 Asian Dreams Jazz Vocal Competition followed by a performance with the TS Monk Septet in Osaka, Japan.

Cynthia's gifted vocals and natural inclination for jazz is attributed to her upbringing in Newark, New Jersey where music filled her home on any given day. Her stepfather, trumpeter Calvin Hughes was a band leader and performed with such jazz greats as Count Basie, Frank Foster, Clark Terry, Eddie "Lockjaw" Davis, and Big Maybelle.

Hearing Loss: Fact vs Fiction & Meet A Radical Survivor on Read My Lips Radio

    in Lifestyle

READ MY LIPS' akaRadioRed goes beyond the typical blah-blah-yada-yada canned interview, engaging multiple guests in spontaneous conversations.

"Can't hear me? Got a banana in your ear?" If you remember this "joke" from when you were a kid, it's time to learn the truth about hearing loss, which is NOT a laughing matter for millions of people. According to Tim "The Hear Doctor" Frantz, MD, we typically begin to experience hearing loss as early as age 12. His book, Hearing Loss: Facts and Fiction: 7 Secrets to Better Hearing is an easy-to-read guide that busts myths about hearing health, testing and aid devices. Dr. Tim's experience and wisdom could help you and/or a loved one avoid the ramifications of poor hearing: relationship communication issues, lower earning power, social discomfort and more. www.TheHearDoc.com.

Nancy Saltzman is a "Radical Survivor" who beat cancer twice, and learned to live and love again after her husband and two sons perished in a small plane crash. Nancy wisely advises, "How you respond to loss will define you as a survivor or a victim." Learn her 3 techniques to help ensure you survive. Wondering how to express your condolences to help someone through a loss? Nancy says, "Make lasagna or at least write a condolence letter." She will also differentiate between the grief of a widow vs. a divorcée, and how to offer appropriate support to each. Her book is Radical Survivor: One Woman's Path Through Life, Love, and Uncharted Tragedy. www.nancysaltzman.com

Just breathe... in every moment we begin again.

    in Women

    Welcome...

Just Breathe is a retreat for your soul…a beautiful invitation to pause on purpose and connect to your mind, body and spirit.  In the space of stillness and guided meditation we honor our self-care needs and set heart centered intentions for the week. This show features a beautiful centering experience offered to gently create awareness and connection to the abundant grace present in our lives. Meditation is the practice of becoming still, detached from the chatter of our mind. A quiet mind releases dormant energy, increases vitality, strength and clarity…inviting us to be light, creative, joyful and at peace.

Life is messy.  It’s how we show up in the mess that matters. The gift of compassionate presence to self allows us to breathe in gratitude and exhale grace, cultivating resiliency and the capacity to be with whatever shows up in the moment. Our weekly practice is a beautiful divine interruption…connecting to our intentions and spirit for guidance, light and love. This is simply grace...

Honor your self care needs and  pause on purpose.  Join Mikki Lessard and Nancy Feth in this mindfulness practice. You will experience a beautiful gift of tenderness, compassion and love to self through a divinely inspired guided meditation...
