    Dolores Manzanares

    in History

Today my guest is Dolores Manzanares, who  will share her experiences working with bands in California

    Dolores Manzanare's Bio

1951 - 1960: Began singing in church choir, school chorus in grade school, middle school and high school.

1960 - 1965 Joined a band and we played mostly Rock and Oldies But Goodies (5 years)

    1965 - 1975 Took a break and raised a family.

1975 - 1990 Returned to college, took singing classes, and formed a band of my own, "The 2002 Band." I studied to become an educator and worked on week-ends with my band. I was the lead singer and we played throughout Southern California for various groups and organizations, fund-raisers, weddings, anniversaries, birthday parties, hospital Christmas parties, New Year's Parties, and played for the Arthur Murray Dance Studios.

We played all genres of music from Oldies to Swing, ballads, latin music, polkas, tangos, waltzes, fox trot, rock and disco.

I was able to juggle raising my two boys, attending college, graduated in 1981 with my Bachelor's and a Teaching Credential in Bilingual Education, then, my Master's Degree, also in Bilingual Education in 1988. I continued to perform with my band until 1990, at which time, I felt I needed to just focus on my teaching career. I totaled 20 years as a vocalist and musical percussionist. I thoroughly enjoyed entertaining groups and organizations throughout Southern California.

I must say that Teaching and a Musical Career were two very rewarding careers for me. I was able to sing on television, radio, and record at a recording studio, at age 21. Those were exciting times for me.

    in Christianity

Greetings God's people I am blessed that you have decided to join me in the studio for another uplifting broadcast. It is always an honor when I can speak about God's goodness and his love for his people..My guest this evening is David Murray from the best selling book The Happy Christian, David will discuss how hopelessness has invaded much of our culture, even reaching deep into the church.  But while the world is awash in negativity, Christians have resources to live different. In The Happy Christian, professor and pastor David Murray blends the best of modern science and psychology with the timeless truths of Scripture to create a solid, credible guide to positivity.  Murray exposes modern negativity’s insidious roots and presents ten perspective-changing ways to remain optimistic in a world that keeps trying to drag us down. The Happy Christian invites readers to shed negativity and become countercultural missionaries by demonstrating the positive power of the gospel in their lives.

Stop Child Abuse Now (SCAN) - 1040

    in Self Help

Tonight's special guest is Arnold Herman from Keansburg, NJ, a father of five, who, along with his wife, has also fostered 32 children over the years, some of them from abusive backgrounds. He is an author of two books with problem solving ideas related to teenagers, and runs "Experience Counts Inc", a non profit organization working to prevent the abuse of adolescents and teenagers by educating parents and children on ways to deal with each other without getting into abusive situations. Arnold writes, "Parenting an adolescent or teenager is without a doubt one of the toughest jobs in the world it is a 24-hour per day, seven day a week task that requires the patience of a saint, the Wisdom of Solomon, and the money of Bill Gates. By the time we get really good at it, our children have grown to adulthood." And he goes on, "The wrong kind of parenting can lead to many problems. In addition to creating a poor relationship between parent and child, it can often lead to various type of abuse. Abuse of adolescents and teenagers is a terrible, but often preventable, problem. More often then not it starts with a simple lack of communication. Then escalates to verbal and physical abuse The parents who perpetrate this type of abuse are often not bad people, but rather parents who have become frustrated in their attempts to communicate with, relate to, and control their children. Sexual abuse may also start innocently, with parents often unaware of the behavior that could lead to this terrible tragedy." Be sure to download his free handbooks: "Bring Back The Woodshed" and "Raising Reasonable Parents."

Stop Child Abuse Now (SCAN) - 1039

    in Self Help

SPECIAL TOPIC Night - "For Our Kids" - Deborah Maddison, and Tracy Baxter, Canadian activists from British Columbia, will join Bill Murray to lead this evening's discussion about the Rights of Children and Families in North America. Tonight's TOPIC: Are our Family Courts in Contempt? With judges running roughshod over civil rights and ignoring rule of law, as well as abusing the use of contempt charges and then gagging innocent litigants to cover up their actions, who is REALLY in contempt here? It is getting to a point where being a litigant in Family Court is as risky as being a random target on a firing range. We'll speak with legal expert Barry Goldstein, author of the books 'The Quincy Solution' and 'Domestic Violence Abuse and Child Custody,' with Robin Carr, advocate and author of 'The Motherless Child Project,' and with advocate Lori Callies. The cases and rulings they'll be discussing are so completely outrageous and utterly contemptible, you won't believe they are true. But, tragically, they are. This is one show you won't want to miss. ~~  Every two weeks a new THEME will be presented in this series, with frequent special guests speaking from their own experience. ~~ Please see our web page at: www.NAASCA.org/ForOurKids or write to: naasca.forourkids@gmail.com

    Gennady Golovkin-Martin Murray Review

    in Sports

HBO World Championship Boxing was live from the Salle des Étoiles in Monte Carlo, Monaco as Gennady “GGG” Golovkin was set to defend his WBA and interim WBC middleweight titles against Martin Murray in a bout scheduled for 12 rounds. Murray was supposed to test Golovkin and finally provide a test for “GGG,” who has run through his opposition—riding an 18 KO/TKO streak heading into the fight.

Last time Murray was headlining an HBO WCB broadcast he was in Argentina, and he was on the bad side of a controversial unanimous decision loss to the lineal middleweight champion, at the time, Sergio Martinez. Since the loss, Murray has won 4 in a row, albeit against softer opposition.

Still, Murray appeared like a legitimate test for Golovkin or at least the best fighter heading into a bout with actual momentum.

Golovkin started out the fight in his typical fashion and didn’t rush in there, especially when you consider the way other fighters with the same kind of power typically do. Instead, Golovkin was methodical and tried gauging openings opposed to jumping on his opponent.

Murray utilized a mixture of punches, but mostly stayed in the same style. Still, Murray found success in brief spots with jabs to the body and overhands, nothing landed flush, and it was always one shot at a time.

Golovkin finally landed a decent shot to close out the first round; it was enough to show Murray his power and win him a slow round.

The second round was much better for Murray, who made it a point to get off first and disrupt Golovkin’s approach. Murray won the round by keeping “GGG” from sitting down on his punches and landing more than one shot at a time.
