    Nabwic Talks Dedra Owens, President and Founder of DOT Communications. With over 15 years of experience that includes delivering some of Washington DC's most high profile special events, Ms. Owens has established a solid network with local and national media. Her reputation for producing highly effective campaigns within African American markets has made her a sought after advisor and speaker.

    Prior to founding DOT Communications, Ms. Owens worked for UniWorld Group, Inc., the nation's longest-standing full-service multicultural agency, and at Golin/Harris Communications, one of the nations leading public relations firms. A native of Louisville, KY, she is a graduate of Howard University and resides in Washington, DC. She currently serves as the Vice-President of the Washington, DC Chapter of the Black Public Relations Society.

    DOT Communications' client list represents numerous industries and includes from Fortune 500 corporations to private foundations. In addition, DOT's clients cover some of the largest and most historic African American owned businesses and organizations in the United States.

    NABWIC's guest this morning is Andrea Whilby!


    Andrea Whilby is the President of Providian Construction Group, She is a General Contractor and  a dynamic leader in the South Florida Community. Andrea came to the United States with her family over 15 years ago from the Island of Jamaica to pursue her educational goals. She began her pursuits of an associate degree in Architecture at Broward Community College. While at BCC Andrea was a member of the honor society Phi Theta Kappa. There she served as Parliamentarian and then Vice President. She was a member of the Deans list several times and was honored in the Who’s Who in American Junior Colleges in 1995. Andrea Graduated with Honors from BCC and also received the distinguished Student in Business award in 1996. She then transferred to the University of Florida where she pursued her Bachelor’s of Science degree in Building Construction Management. While at the University Andrea was nominated to be a McNair Scholar in honor of the late Ronald E. McNair. She served as President of the National Association of Minority Contractors in the M.E. Rinker School of Building Construction in 1997. She was also nominated to the President’s list in 1997 and graduated with High Honors from the University of Florida. Andrea obtained her Masters Degree in Business Administration from Nova Southeastern University and maintained her high standards for educational pursuits by graduating with high honors.

    NABWIC Talks: with Rosa J. Carter

    Rosa Jones Carter is a progressing construction owner with JC Homes Services, LLC of Jacksonville Florida. She has been skilled in commercial and industrial masonry and concrete construction for 24 years and counting. This is a family owned business and she is the third generation.  At the age of 25 she became certified as a Structural Mason Contractor in Tampa, FL and an OSHA Safety Inspector in Chicago, IL.  After suffering a near death experience she closed the business until recently.  She envisions restructuring the company to include young adults, innovation while achieving a Mind Shift change on how to become a Black Woman in Construction.


    Rosa Jones Carter also stays active in her community by educating others about the construction industry, current political dealings, and current affairs. She serves as a Board Member and Officer of the Florida First Coast Chapter of the National Business League (NBL), Co-Chair of Economic Development of the Southern Christian Leadership Conference (SCLC) and a Member of National Association of Black Women in Construction (NABWIC).
