Author's Talk Show - Amanda Moon (Mystery writer - "Stealing the Ruby Slippers")

    in Entertainment

Amanda Michelle Moon is the writer of two published works.  You can see more about her and her books on her website.

In this interview, we discuss first, her mystery thriller, Stealing the Ruby Slippers. And, yes, we do mean those ruby slippers!

Stealing the Ruby Slippers was easy. Jared broke into the museum, smashed the display case, and got out without leaving any evidence. But when Hurricane Katrina wipes out the buyer he had lined up, he’s stuck. The country’s most famous shoes are hidden in his dirty laundry.

The theft wasn’t just for fun— it was the last chance he had to pay back his gambling debts. His creditor won’t accept excuses and is done granting extensions. He’s going to have to pay, either in cash or blood.

While he figures out what to do next, Jared’s girlfriend thinks it’s okay to wear the priceless artifacts. And now the police would like to ask him a few questions.

Inspired by the real-life unsolved mystery, Stealing the Ruby Slippers blends fact and fiction to keep you guessing until the last page.

Another of Amanda Michelle Moon's books, is the non-fiction/self-help book, Your Pilates Life.

Your Pilates Life will guide you in making Pilates a part of your everyday life- not just an exercise routine.  You will learn how to increase health and happiness while lowering stress and finding focus.

Each chapter is broken up into sections. Not all may apply to your particular age/stage in life, and that’s fine, just do the ones that speak to you.

A North Florida Writer "Short Take": Imagine(3)........

    in Lifestyle

TONIGHT'S SHORT TAKE WILL BE ABOUT A SPECIAL PEEVE OF MINE: THE PERILS OF DINING OUT.  AND NO, IN THIS SHORT OPINION PIECE I'M NOT COMPLAINING ABOUT THE RESTAURANT OR THE WAIT STAFF.  LET'S JUST ASSUME THAT THE FOOD IS EXCELLENT, THE SERVICE IS GREAT AND THE AMBIANCE OF THE LAYOUT AND ACCOUTREMENTS OF THE ESTABLISHMENT ARE SUPERB.  WHAT I AM TALKING ABOUT IS THE BEHAVIOR, PRESENTATION AND ATTITUDE OF SOME OF THE DINERS WHO RUIN A NICE EVENING FOR EVERYONE.  I KNOW THAT ALL OF US HAVE EXPERIENCED THIS.

SO JUST IMAGINE....A GREAT RESTAURANT FILLED WITH NICE, WELL MANNERED AND PRESENTABLE PEOPLE WHO RECOGNIZE MY RIGHT AND YOURS NOT TO BE THROWN INTO "GRAND CENTRAL STATION AT RUSH HOUR".  IF YOU'RE IN A RUSH THERE ARE PLENTY OF DECENT FAMILY ORIENTED FACILITIES THAT MEET YOUR NEEDS AS WELL AS UNTOLD FAST FOOD ESTABLISHMENTS.  THERE ARE ALSO MANY PLACES THAT ESPECIALLY CATER TO KIDS, SO CONSIDER THAT AS WELL.

AS RODNEY DANGERFIELD SAID: "I DON'T GET NO RESPECT". YOU NEVER WANT TO LEAVE A GOOD RESTAURANT FEELING THAT WAY.

THE SHOW WILL ACTUALLY START AT 9:02 EASTERN.  I HOPE YOU'LL JOIN ME. DINING OUT, JUST ANOTHER EXAMPLE OF THE THINGS WE DO IN LIFE AND LIVING IT.

Catholic Founding Fathers - The Carroll Family

        CHARLES CARROLL CARTER

George Washington, Thomas Jefferson, John Adams, James Madison, Patrick Henry, Benjamin Franklin. Nearly every schoolchild recognizes them as the Founding Fathers. But there were a great many more Founding Fathers, even if their names are not so familiar as the above. Several of those lesser-known men who played key roles in the creation of the United States of America were Catholics.

George Washington, Thomas Jefferson, John Adams, James Madison, Patrick Henry, Benjamin Franklin. Nearly every schoolchild recognizes them as the Founding Fathers signers of the Declaration of Independence, framers of the Constitution, heroes of the Revolutionary War.

There were a great many more Founding Fathers, however, even if their names are not so familiar as the above. Several of those lesser-known men who played key roles in the creation of the United States of America were Catholics. Chief among them were three members of the Carroll family of Maryland: Charles Carroll, the only Catholic signer of the Declaration of Independence; his cousin Daniel Carroll; and Daniel Carroll's brother John Carroll, who became America's first Catholic bishop.

Charles Carroll of Carrollton (1737-1832) was the most illustrious and best-known of the Carrolls. He was the only signer whose property Carrollton was mentioned in the Declaration of Independence. Carrollton was the 10,000-acre estate in Frederick County, Maryland, that Charles Carroll's father had given him on his return to America from his education in Europe.

At the time he signed the Declaration, it was against the law for a Catholic to hold public office or to vote. Although Maryland was founded by and for Catholics in 1634, in 1649 and, later, in 1689 after the Glorious Revolution placed severe restrictions on Catholics in England, the laws were changed in Maryland.
