Money Matters Monday with Carletta: "I Have Insurance on My Job"

    in Self Help

I have been learning so much from my Monday night conversations with Carletta.  This process is helping me to stay on top of my priorities when it comes to money.  It's so easy to get caught up in everyday life and forget about your financial game plan.

Which brings us to tonight's conversation "I Have Insurance on My Job".  It's so easy to switch jobs and forget to update your information.  So, Carletta thought this would be a good topic to discuss this Money Matters Monday.  And I agree, in fact, I have a guest caller that's going to spend about 5 minutes with us to talk about their experience with transitioning from a job and trying to take their job life insurance with them.  Interesting stuff.

If you would like to contact me about any of the episodes in the Cynthia Clark Book Club Radio Show, you can reach me at 312-715-8834.

  • Your Money - Your Matters Celebrates National Tortilla Chip Day

    in Finance

Tortilla chips were first mass-produced in Los Angeles in the late 1940′s. The triangle shaped tortilla chips were made popular by Rebecca Webb Carranza as a way to use the misshapen tortillas that were rejected from the automated tortilla manufacturing machine that she and her husband used at their Los Angeles.

Carranza realized that once the discarded tortillas were cut into triangle shapes and fried, they became a popular snack.  She then sold them for a dime a bag at the El Zarape Tortilla Factory.  Carranza received the Golden Tortilla award in 1994, for her contribution to the Mexican food industry.

So how does one come up with an idea that becomes such a popular item? On Your Money, Your Matters we will explore that question and many more.

I was so financially unprepared when I set out into the world after college. I had a good job, but I had very little knowlege about money managment and personal finance. Needless to say, It set me back in life.

After moving to St. Louis with my job, I came across an organization that taught personal finance and the folks I met there were like family.  That was years ago, but through fate, I re-connected with one of those Financial Angels right here in Chicago.
