LaKeisha wears many hats but takes none as seriously or works with as much passion as she does at being the BEST parent she can offer to her children.

She has worked with teen pregnancy groups such as Lula Belle Stewart Services, and taught sexual responsibility at St. Johns Church on Oakland Ave in Detroit with Pastor Bertha Carter. LaKeisha also saw a need for individuals who re enter society from prison to have work so she aided in the discipline of employment with MPRI - Creating Safer Neighborhoods and Better Citizens via Insight Teleservices. "All these things are needed in rebuilding and healing the family structure within the community, but you must teach others how to heal themselves and how to build a positive self esteem first" says Keisha.

    Muddy Waters - Folk Singer

    in Music

Muddy's "unplugged" album was cut in September of 1963 and still sounds fresh and vital today. It was Muddy simply returning to his original style on a plain acoustic guitar in a well-tuned room with Willie Dixon on string bass, Clifton James on drums, and Buddy Guy on second acoustic guitar. The nine tracks are divvied up between full rhythm section treatments with Buddy and Muddy as a duo and the final track, "Feel Like Going Home," which Waters approaches solo. What makes this version of the album a worthwhile buy is the inclusion of five bonus tracks from his next two sessions: An April 1964 session brings us Willie Dixon's "The Same Thing" and Muddy's "You Can't Lose What You Never Had," while the October 1964 session features J.T. Brown on sax and clarinet on "Short Dress Woman" and "My John the Conqueror Root," as well as "Put Me in Your Lay Away," another strong side. Folk Singer offers both sides of Muddy from the early '60s. Cub Koda, allmusic.com

Around Mackinac Island and Destination Speed Dating at #SATW

    in Travel

Mackinac Island, named by Native Americans for its shape as a turtle, is a northern Michigan island made famous by the Christopher Reeve and Jane Seymour movie, "Somewhere in Time".  Just as the Victorian-period movie reflected, Mackinac Island has maintained its old world charm.  Many of the buildings reflect Victorian architecture and there are only two ways to travel around the 9 mile island--by bicycle or horse drawn carriage.  Join World Footprints as wel explore the island by horse drawn carriage today.

There are only two ways to travel to the island from the mainland--small plane or ferry.  World Footprints had the pleasure of meeting Chris Shepler of Shepler's Ferry on one such journey between the island and the lower peninsula of Michigan.  Chris shared the imporance of his family's legacy and Shepler Ferry's philanthropic mission.  Chris also gave Tonya and opportunity to play Captain as she navigated the waters of Lake Huron at the helm.

Finally, World Footprints had a chance to meet representatives from a number of East Coast destinations at a Society of American Travel Writers (SATW) conference.  We did a bit of speed dating with each travel destination to discover the special things that each offers to travelers.  Pack your bags and stay tuned to see what adventures await.

#114 - Amnesty Stayed, Flooding In TX, Bloodbath In MD, Soccer Officially SUCKS!

    in Politics Conservative

The 5th Circuit Court of Appeals slapped down Obama’s illegal amnesty fiat this week maintaining the stay on applications. His reaction was to double the efforts and register MORE illegals. This is more evidence for naysayers who think him stopping 2016 elections couldn’t happen. Flood waters are raging right now in Texas and Oklahoma. So much for the drought. Now the reservoirs are filling back up and the dams are doing their job in spite of the lives lost. We prayed for rain…now we have it. At the same time Baltimore resident are losing their lives due to less policing going on. And finally we have one more reason to hate soccer; FIFA is proving to be crooked as a dog’s hind leg.
