Bobby Mercer is My Guest, Tuesday, January 7, 2014

    in Books

About the book  The Racecar Book

You may not be old enough to drive, but that doesn’t mean you can’t satisfy your need for speed. Author and physics teacher Bobby Mercer shows how to use mousetraps, rubber bands, chemical reactions, gravity, and air pressure to power fast-moving vehicles. Each of the 25 easy-to-build racecars is constructed for little or no cost using recycled and repurposed materials. Retrofit a toy car with a model plane propeller to make an air-powered Prop Car. Turn a potato chip can, a rubber band, and weights into a Chip-Can Dancer. Or use an effervescent tablet in a small canister as an impressive rocket engine for a Mini Pop Car. Every project in The Racecar Book contains a materials list and detailed step-by-step instructions with photos for easy assembly. Mercer also includes explanations of the science behind each racecar, including concepts such as friction, Newton’s laws of motion, kinetic and potential energy, and more. These projects are perfect for science fairs or design competitions, or just having fun!

    About the author

Bobby Mercer has been a high school physics teacher for more than two decades. He is the author of The Flying Machine Book and Smash It! Crash It! Launch It! He lives outside of Asheville, North Carolina.

The message behind this show was so potent we had to give you an encore....

Perception is reality...or is it? It appears that one can become filthy rich without much of an education these days. It can even be said that some studious individuals will tone down their poise and vocabulary just so they can "fit in". We live amongst a society that sponsors the mousetrap that ignorance serves to us. Join host Anah Mae as she discusses the truth of this trance. Dumb really does seem to be the new smart but who is really being fooled here?

ADHD in Prison: The Travesty and Reintegration

    in Self Help

Isn't incarceration about applying negative consequences in the hope individuals will see the light and change their ways?  In this episode of Attention Talk Radio, host Jeff Copper and co-host Kirsten Milliken interview Rob Tudisco, a criminal defense attorney, around the topic of ADHD in prisons and the reintegration process.  Listen in and become aware of how the system penalizes those with ADHD by removing the tools, structures, and resources that those with ADHD need to manage their ADHD effectively, like ADHD meds, special education services, counselors, therapists, and coaches. They discuss how the structured environment of a prison sets an ADD-er up for failure when released back into an unstructured world. We'll talk about other travesties for those with ADHD, such as the emphasis upon release to get a job with no regard to finding the right job. In the end, you'll see why most ADHD adults in prison had graduated from the juvenile justice system, and you'll understand why prisons like Riker's Island have more inmates with mental health issues than any mental health hospital in the country. Whether you have ADHD or not, this issue impacts you. Listen in, learn, and help educate society so we can build a better mousetrap. Attention Talk Radio is the leading site for self-help Internet radio shows focusing on attention deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD) and attention deficit disorder (ADD), including managing symptoms of attention deficit disorder, adults with ADD, or adults who have children with ADHD. Attention Talk Radio, hosted by attention coach Jeff Copper, is designed to help adults and children (particularly those diagnosed with or impacted by attention deficit disorder or its symptoms) in life or business who are stuck, overwhelmed, or frustrated. It will help adults and children get unstuck and moving forward by helping to open their minds and pay attention to what works.

Compassionate Capitalist: What is an "investable" business?

    in Business

Karen Rands, the Compassionate Capitalist, will share insights into what makes a business "investable".   Less than 12% of the businesses that actually qualify to pitch to a group of investors ever raise all their money.  If you think about it that means the odds of an entrepreneur ever getting ANY angel investor capital is probably not even 1 in 10.  It isn't about making a better mousetrap or having  great idea... being "investable", even "fundable" is so much more than that--- but is actually very logical.
Tune in to learn what the ONE thing is that every business that attracts any or all of the investment capital they seek has provided to the investors that compelled them to invest.  And learn how to apply that to your business when Karen shares real life examples.

    THE DJ STEREO FAITH CONVERSATION

    in Hip Hop Music

Steven "Stereo Faith" McPherson is a DC music institution rapidly rising to the same venerated veteran levels of those he admired as a youth in the city, HR from Bad Brains, Chuck Brown, Henry Rollins and so many more. A musical encyclopedia and unquestionably mega talented professional, he is now the touring DJ for DC's next big act, hip hop performer of note Tabi Bonney.

However, just over a month ago, Stereo Faith had a successful surgery to remove a tumor from his brain tha had pressed down upon the auditory nerves of his right ear, almost rendering him incapable of performing in what is ultimately his greatest contribution as a citizen of the world. This coming Friday, Stereo Faith makes an early return behind the decks to Mark Zimin's legendary Mousetrap party in DC at the Black Cat.

We'll discuss Stereo Faith's career, as well as his newfound motivation as a DJ and possibly producer, as well as more discussion on the nature and history of DC music.

    Enjoy!
