Let's Talk Urban 1 Invites Yara Kaleemah to the Platform

    in Books

Yara Kaleemah was born in Newark, NJ in the early 90's. As a child she would spend hours writing stories. When her friends were outside, playing, she was in the house writing. Being that she was an only child she had a lot of time on her hands. Naturally, when people asked what she wanted to be when she grew up she would say "an author."
In 2013, Yara published her first novella, Too Much to Chew. It was the greatest accomplishment. Soon after came three more outstanding urban fiction novels. Then, she started S.W.A.G Productions. Wanting to establish something creative, the acronym stands for Strong Women Achieving Greatness. SWAG Productions is a platform for self-published authors. The company offers services such as editing, proofreading, and typing.
Now, Yara is working hard at school and becoming a bestselling author. She is excited to embark on this new journey with SWAG Productions and fE Mag. Even though sometimes it is difficult to juggle motherhood, being a wife, a student, an author, and a publisher, she manages. With hard work and dedication she will achieve all of her goals.

    in Entertainment

    BRING THE LOVE BACK!!!!!

    in Hip Hop Music

Great morning everyone!! Welcome to the kingdom. Today is my moms birthday and she told me to talk about "LOVE". Then she reminded me that our Heavenly Father loves us so much that he gave his only begotten son so that whoever believes in him will not perish. Love is an action word. Therefore, God did something to prove his love for us. As a matter of fact, the only thing we have to do is love to prove our love to one another.

"Owe no man nothing but to love one another. For the one who loves another has fulfilled the law". (ROMANS 13:8)

    A Tribute to Sheila Kitzinger

    in Women

Sheila Kitzinger passed away this week, leaving a legacy in world of advocating for Women's Rights in birth on par with the likes of Mother Theresa and Nelson Mandela.

She has been dubbed the Pioneer of Homebirth, Renowned Childbirth expert and Childbirth Revolutionary.  My favrouties are the High Priestess of Chidlbirth (The Guardian) and Doyenne of Natural Childbirth (Jane Hardwicke Collings, Midwife).

I had the honour of meeting and working with Sheila. She is a true inspiration.

Her legacy includes the psychosexual experience of Birth, the Birth Plan (namely moving about in labour, saying no to episiotomies and women centred care), advocating for water births, stopping women in gaol giving birth in handcuffs and the experience of Rape and Post Traumatic Stress Syndrome by women who are coerced into medical procedures in labour and birth.

Anthonia Akitunde - The Voice Behind Mater Mea

    in Family

MGN Radio welcomes Anthonia Akitunde to our show on Wednesday at 9pm EST. Anthonia Akitunde is the founder and editor-in-chief of Mater Mea. Raised in Kansas City, Missouri on a healthy diet of books and magazines, her decision to be a journalist was practically inevitable. After graduatingfrom the University of Chicago and Northwestern’s Medill School of Journalism, Anthonia moved to New York City to further her journalism career, freelancing for The New York Times, Fast Company, Fortune.com, and The Root. Always bothered by the lack of diversity in her favorite magazines—she even wrote letters to Ebony and Essence when she was 12, proposing they create a teenaged version of their publications and make her editor-in-chief—Anthonia was especially struck by the dearth in mainstream media of professional women of color. When founder emeritus Deborah Choi reached out to partner with her on a new site that would present a morerealistic and relatable view of black motherhood, she knew she’d found her calling. You don't want to miss this show!

Check HERE for the link to Mater Mea
