Choosing the Right Monologue for You

    in Entertainment

Choosing a great monologue is not easy!  But as an actor, you should always be prepared with at least 2 rehearsed monologues in your back pocket.  So how do you find a monologue that is just right for you?
On the next episode of Lights, Camera...ACTOR! actress/producer, Natalie Victoria and filmmaker, Geno Brooks will help me answer that question.
Natalie Victoria is best known for playing the role of Ellie in the cult horror flick, "Deadheads."  But Miss Victoria is also an accomplished producer and business woman.  As an actress, she's performed her fair share of monologues, and knows what it takes to knock one out of the park.
Geno Brooks has written, acted in, and executive produced a slew of independent projects.  Currently, you can catch his web series "The Therapist" online. Geno knows what he's looking for when it comes to casting an actor to fill a role.  And a great monologue is definitely a way to show off your acting chops to this filmmaker.

The Power Zone with DU: Brenden Ortiz, Pretty Boy With The House In Virginia

    in Motivation

    Wednesday, July 22, 2015

Tonight, The Power Zone with DU welcomes Brenden Ortiz, Motivational Speaker, Activist for HIV/AIDS and Author of the bestselling novel “The Pretty Boy with the House In Virginia”.  Mr. Ortiz joins host, Darlene A. Anderson of Darlene’s Utopia and Author of Not Without A Fight: 10 Ways To Win When it Appears You’ve Already Lost, to discuss his journey from hopeless to hopeful, and how he is educating and inspiring others to do the same.

Brenden Ortiz is a twenty-five year old Homosexual Male and Native of Brooklyn, New York.  He passionately speaks out on HIV/AIDS and its Stigma because he too is HIV POSITIVE. He shares with inner city youth the period in his life in which he considered to be stages of total darkness; at the age of 16, he experienced the tragic death of both his mother and father, which led to him to becoming internally numb, exploring the world recklessly with no care, and contracting the HIV virus in 2010.

“The Pretty Boy with the House In Virginia”, chronicles Brenden's journey from hopeless to hopeful. Brenden is dedicated to utilizing his testimony to promote awareness and actions of prevention. Having established “What Does HIV Look Like”, a NY based Non-profit and preparing to educate the masses on not just the diagnosis, but the stigmas that are attached to it…it is clear that he is on a mission of purpose!

Join Brenden Ortiz on August 15, 2015 for

Let's talk...Done with diagnosing the problem now implementing the solution - 1

    in Christianity

Participants are encouraged to present their spiritual questions, queries and struggles, whereby the host will attempt with the aid of scripture and the Holy Spirit's inspiration to provide adequate instruction, correction, inspiration and encouragement.  Comments and exhortation may also be solicited from the other participants within the bounds of relevance and congeniality.  The overall objective will be to create a liberated atmosphere where people feel free and comfortable to share their concerns and get their longtime, internalized questions at the least addressed and ideally answered.  This format is being employed to stir discussion and participation amongst God’s people and counter the current spectator, one-way monologue program that is being practiced in most contemporary church worship services today.  The goal being to allow the Holy Spirit the freedom, time and interaction to bring knowledge, wisdom, healing and support to the members of Christ’s body, for one another and by one another.  As well as, inviting outside seekers of truth into a non-intimidating, non-traditionally religious setting of dialogue, where they can pose their questions without fear of judgment and openness and acceptance in a spirit of love and mutual engagement.  Join us as we pierce through the darkness & cut our way through the murky waters of what Christianity has become today, so as to find the freedom that Christ intended us to have, in the same way he taught & shared when he walked & lived life among the people. What was the Act's Church & were we meant depart from it into what Church has become today. And if we have, how did we get there? Join us as we unravel these questions & tackle many more which has made Christianity into what it is today.ian faith.

Lyrics and Lines: The Art of Spoken Word

    in Entertainment

Spoken Word is poetry intended for onstage performance, rather than exclusively designed for the page. While often associated with hip-hop culture, it also has strong ties to storytelling, modern poetry, post- modern performance, and monologue theater, as well as jazz, blues, and folk music.

Join my co-host Erica Missy and I as we discuss her upcoming spoken word event 'Love Jones L.A' and allow a few of the acts to blaze live on my show. Tune in if you are a lover of powerful prose that rhythmically blends words with emotion to create an eargasm like no other.
