Our guests on Metalsmith Benchtalk on Thursday May 21st, 2015 at 3:00 pm PST are ceramic and metal artists Kranitsky and Overstreet.
We invite you to listen and participate in this live interview by logging onto the chatroom on Blogtalkradio.com or by sending a message to Whaley Studios via Facebook, Instagram or Twitter.
The creative collaboration between Kranitzky and Overstreet began in 1985 when a mutual interest in ceramics prompted them to create mixed-media jewelry to raise funds for a kiln. The serendipitous flourishing of this project launched their collaborative venture known then as Lost & Found. Over the years their jewelry has evolved into intricate, narrative brooches which are now in permanent museum collections including the Museum of Fine Arts Boston, Museum of Fine Arts Houston, Philadelphia Museum of Art, Metropolitan Museum of Art, The Smithsonian Collection: National Museum of Contemporary American Craft and the Design Museum Helsinki, Finland. Robin and Kim have participated in many exhibitions over the years and their work is featured in numerous publications. The Kranitzky & Overstreet studio is located in Richmond, Virginia, USA.
Mauricia Torres has been working as a figurative artist for the past thirteen years. Her works often deal with social issues as well as using mixed media, written text and found objects. She is currently finishing her Bachelor’s of Fine Arts degree and will be exhibiting a series of portraits at the Martha Gault Gallery in the Maltby center of Slippery Rock University. The portraits will feature members of the lesbian, gay, bisexual, trangender community and allies to prove that gender and sexual orientation cannot be judged simply by the exterior. The exhibition will run from December 8-15th with a reception from 5-7 on the 8th www.mauriciatorres.com http://fineartamerica.com/profiles/mauricia-torres.html

Yesterday we celebrated Thanksgiving, while many did so in fear. Today there are many protests planned in major shopping areas. What effect do these protests have on the general population and our police? Does the distraction that they create in a crowded mall provide for a perfect oppotunity for terrorists? Fox News is reporting that the FBI have 48 ISIS subjects under constant surveillance in an effort to twart a 'Paris style' attack.
How is all of this behavior affecting our police officers and policies today? Join in our discussion with author of 'Micheal Brown Jr. Didn't Have to Die', Ken Dye.
