Adriesue "Bitzy" Gomez was a pioneer of trucking that has been erased from history.
In the 1970’s the Coalition of Women Truck Drivers, was a 150 member group that organized to fight hiring discrimination, sexual misconduct in trucking companies and raise awareness of lack of bathroom facilities at truck stops for women. The work of these women paved the way to the modern day recruitment campaigns that encourage women to apply for truck driving jobs and "Good Fath" EEO hiring efforts.
Bitzy passed way in the Spring of 2015 after being hit by a car while walking across a busy street in Orange County California. Her Brother Paul Critchett joins us as our guest to remember his sister's tenacity , advocacy and the life struggles she encoutered trying to support her children while working as a long-haul truck driver.
Saturday 10-3-15 6pm ET-
Join us with our guest and co-host, Tom Kyrk of Road Tested Living as we discuss the hottest topics on AskTheTrucker “Live’ Truck Driver Health Open Forum.
Professional drivers are more aware of the dangers of their compromised food supply, the increase in illnesses such as diagnosed diabetes, obesity, heart disease, and increased autoimmune disease.
Because of awareness, truckers are now more concerned and actively involved by taking proactive measures to improve their health.
You know who else has announced they are going to become proactively involved with driver health? The FMCSA. On September 21st and 22nd FMCSA's Motor Carrier Safety Advisory Council ( MCSAC) and the Medical Review Board (MRB) opened up discussion regarding the Health and Wellness of the professional Driver.
Tonight we will discuss this newly announced involved by the FMCSA and determine if becoming involved with truck driver health and wellness is for the earnest regard of the professional driver? Or.... is it to become just one more way the government will become even more involved with driver lives.
We’ll also be discussing , unsafe cookware to avoid in your truck, what kind of diet programs to stay away from, and the new craze on “salts” is there any really any differences?

Monday morning are just the worse, at least that is generally what people feel, and we cannot say that we blame them because Mondays are the start of the week, and its hard to get those wheels turning after a nice relaxing weekend. One thing is for certain. Monday mornings is when all the recruiters start their hunt, they throw the bait out there and wait for the truckers to start trailing in. Now, this is not a bad thing, it is simply how it works. Recruiters need to bait the drivers in or there would never be ay hires. This does not mean recruiters need to lie or over talk a position, it just means they are advertising and getting positions in front of drivers. SO what are all the evils within driver recruiting? TalkCDL posted an article throughout the weekend, you can view it here http://talkcdl.com/the-evils-of-truck-driver-recruiting/ so we will be talking about this to start our week off!

Is the ATA the voice for the Professional driver? 2-25-16 6PM ET 347-826-9170
We will be playing a recent radio interview of the Chairman of the ATA, Pat Thomas, who made the statement that the ATA is not only the voice of the trucking industry, but more importantly the voice to Congress and Lawmakers, as well as those in charge for regulations!!
Yes, regulations! You know the ones, Speed Limiters, ElD’s, heavier trucks....
A provision ( introduced in part by the ATA) is presently waiting to be approved in the FAA Reauthorization bill,. Slipped into the FAA bill is a provision hidden deep within affecting the U.S. trucking industry, specifically the way wages are paid to CDL drivers. Among those who have placed pressure on the House Committee on Transportation and Infrastructure to include this wage damaging provision are:
American Trucking Associations, the 50 ATA-affiliated state trucking associations, the National Private Truck Council, the Truckload Carriers Association and the Truck Renting and Leasing Association.
The ATA is desperately trying to get the truck driver wage provision in the FAA reauthorization bill!
Tonight we will discuss the deceiving tactics that are being used by the ATA to get professional drivers to agree with them, having Section 611 approved in the FAA bill. Read more
If you do not believe the ATA is your voice, then call your representative and tell them no to Section 611 in the FAA bill.
Call in tonight and let us know who you believe the voice of the Professional Driver is!

Another Rulemaking for truckers! On March 8th 2016 the FMCSA and FRA announced the following
Advance Notice of Proposed Rulemaking on Obstructive Sleep Apnea
The Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration (FMCSA) and Federal Railroad Administration (FRA) request data and information concerning the prevalence of moderate-to-severe obstructive sleep apnea (OSA) among individuals occupying safety sensitive positions in highway and rail transportation, and on its potential consequences for the safety of rail and highway transportation.
Driver Fatigue- Is Sleep Apnea the culprit... or are there other causes?
So what does this mean for professional drivers?
Should drivers be even more concerned about screening criteria, testing, diagnosis and Costs? Our guest will be Elaine Papp of HealthandSafetyWorks.net
Elaine Papp, was the chief of FMCSA's Medical Programs Division and tonight she explains how Sleep Apnea guidance has evolved into an anticipated final rule, and what truckers will need to do in order to have their concerns heard AND considered before the Final Rule Making.
The (FMCSA) and (FRA) are seeking public input during the next 90 days on the impacts of screening, evaluating and treating rail workers and commercial motor vehicle (CMV) drivers for obstructive sleep apnea (OSA)
Advance notice of proposed rulemaking; Docket # FMCSA-2015-0419 public comments are due June 8th 2016
