Many Minneapolis residents are appalled after learning an audit of the non-profit Community Action of Minneapolis found corruption and misuse of hundreds of thousands of taxpayer dollars by leaders on luxurious trips to Palm Beach, spa treatments, bonuses, and even a personal car loan. (Star Tribune, September 22, 2014)
With the latest scandal surrounding CSI and Senators Jeff Hayden and Bobby Joe Champion, the team of Ron and Don will examine why now? Why is now the perfect time to expose these types of scandals? We see local community members and the press going after Hayden in regards to CAM; but why no mention of Minneapolis city councilperson Barb Johnson. There's an explaination, but you have to tune in to hear it.

I am more than amused by the prospect of a battle of wits ... though I fear that with you as an opponent... the struggle might well be brief-Victor Von Doom
Imagine this: you’re a Grammy-nominated singer, considered one of the best vocalists of your generation, who has scored major R&B hits and been invited to collaborate with the likes of Kanye West and R. Kelly, yet some folks consider you “underrated.” This has been the plight of Syleena Johnson, acclaimed as one of the finest R&B voices to have emerged during the past decade. Having fought the major label system to allow her true identity to shine forth, Syleena now steps forward with her most personal statement to date. Her boundary-stretching fifth album, entitled, appropriately enough, Chapter V: Underrated, was released on September 27, 2011 on Shanachie Entertainment.
Syleena Johnson grew up outside Chicago in Illinois. Though she got involved with music during her high school years, initially she was discouraged from getting into the music business by her father, who had many disappointing experiences in the industry. Meanwhile her mother become the nation’s first black female police commissioner.
After her live acoustic album release performance of Chapter V: Underrated last year, Syleena was moved by her own music and decided to release the live performance as a mini-album titled Acoustic Soul Sessions, released September 25th, 2012. The mini-album includes five songs from Chapter V: Underrated; an introduction to Chapter 6: Couples Therapy which will be released on October 28th, 2014. The Powerful New Recording on the way will take us back to Syleena’s traditional R&B style. The first single, “Perfectly Worthless”, from the hit new album is now available. Syleena also adds television to her roster as a costar in the TV One hit reality series R&B Divas airing Wednesday nights at 10/9c.

Tonight's special guest is Tim Fisher, a returning NAASCA family member who lives in the Las Vegas area and runs Juvenile Justice Now. Tim, a child abuse survivor, will be with us tonight to describe his experience, strength and hope. Tim was seven years old when he met his predator, a neighbor, teaching Sunday school at the Baptist church. The man began grooming and manipulating Tim and his parents, offering Tim and his sister rides to and from church in his little red Volkswagen. Thus began a situation that was to last seven years. His mother told him that their neighbor needed some help in his yard and around the house and that Tim would be going to go with him on Saturday mornings to help out for a few hours. "My parents must have thought they'd hit the lottery. Here was this fine, upstanding man of God who had taken a genuine interest in their young son’s moral growth and development, says Tim. He goes on, "I’m here today because by the time I had reached my 14th birthday I had been sexually molested approximately 350 times over the course of seven years." He continues, "It took four years for me to become strong enough to come forward. Shortly after my 18th birthday I lit a fuse that would blow multiple families apart." Eventually he went to the Anaheim police and reported his abuse and name his predator. From start to finish it took a year almost to the day for him to be convicted. Eventually he took a plea of guilty to 49 counts of child molestation, lewd conducts involving a minor and with the use of force. Sadly although he was sentenced to 2 to 12 years he was released after serving just nine months. "I’m here to remind you that the abuse never stops for the victim," Tim says, "I encourage anyone who has been sexually abused to make a report even if it happened when you were a child."
