Butterfly Evolution welcomes the debt sheppard, Greg Whitaker, to discuss why so many people can't seem to get ahead financially. We all want to live a debt free life but continue to put ourselves in a position to keep us from getting ahead. Bad spending habits, "get rich quick schemes," and poor financial investments all contribute to living underprivileged when you don't have to. We see advertisements regularly about how to get rid of our debt but these complicated methods give us temporarily relief but never lifetime satisfaction. Why is that (you may ask)? Join us Monday, September 22, 2014 to find out. Believe it or not, it's simpler than you think. Call (818)691-7406

The Metropolitan Transportation Authority will designate $300 million of its proposed capital plan to roll out a new fleet of Staten Island Railway cars. The newly purchased railway cars are expected to be equipped with updated technology to work more closely with the Staten Island Railway's real time arrival system and a more enunciated public address system. Commuters should also expect a quieter and more comfortable ride.
The Staten Island Railway currently uses railway cars that may be only 40 years old, while much older subway cars are being used on other subway lines. Was this a good investment by the MTA? Do you think that the MTA should have invested their money into a North Shore Railway that once operated along the north shore?

Research has shown that 140 million women and girls worldwide have been affected by Female genital mutilation (FGM) and of these, 66,000 were in the UK. It is estimated that up to 98,000 girls in the UK are at risk of being cut.
The World Health Organisation called for the elimination of FGM 30 years ago and the practice was made illegal in the UK in 1985 (with an update in 2003 that made it an offence to arrange to have it performed outside the UK on British Citizens), however there has not been one conviction.
Professor Hazel Barrett of Coventry University believes that this community-based approach is the best way to tackle the issue of FGM worldwide. Despite being a human rights abuse, the practice goes largely unreported amongst the diasporic communities in which it is practiced. Her unique approach to this issue includes working with practising communities to understand the barriers to preventing FGM and using the results of their research to try to change behaviours within communities.
