Peled has described his 2012 book, The General’s Son: Journey of an Israeli in Palestine,as an account of how he, "the son of an Israeli General and a staunch Zionist, came to realize that "the story upon which I was raised ... was a lie." The book, he has said, is based largely on long conversations with his mother, on a thorough reading of "everything my dad had ever written," and on material about his father's career in the Israeli army archives. The book, which has been characterized as "part confessional, part cinematic epic and part emotional appeal for 'different answers' to the Israeli-Palestinian conundrum,"contains a foreword by Alice Walker, author of The Color Purple.
Peled is, with Nader Elbanna, co-founder of the Elbanna-Peled Foundation. Established in 2010 and based in Coronado, California, it describes itself as being "committed to peace, justice and equality by operating exclusively for charitable and educational purposes, including, but not limited to the following:
Humanitarian aid to civilians who were injured as a result of Israeli Palestinian conflict.
Support existing educational efforts that promote Israeli Palestinian reconciliation.
Support local grassroots organizations that work together (Israelis and Palestinians) toward a non-violent resolution of the conflict."
This week on SOTT Talk Radio we'll be interviewing Miko Peled, Israeli peace activist, author, and karate instructor. We’re going to be discussing the latest atrocities being committed in Gaza, the circumstances surrounding ‘Operation Protective Edge’, and Peled’s insights into the horror and tragedy of the decades-long Israel-Palestine conflict - for Palestinians of course, but also, ultimately, for ordinary Israelis too.
Miko Peled was born in Jerusalem into a prominent Israeli Zionist family. His father was a famous General in the IDF, in which Miko also served his time. When Miko’s niece was killed in a terrorist attack in 1997, you may have expected the family to blame the Palestinians, but surprisingly, they blamed the state of Israel.
Imbued with his father’s deep knowledge of Israeli war practices, Peled authored The General’s Son: Journey of an Israeli in Palestine, a book that lays bare the myths surrounding the situation in the Middle East. Peled now travels extensively, giving talks about his experiences to audiences across the world.
We hope you’ll join us live this Sunday July 13th 2014, from 2-4pm EST (11am-1pm PST, 8-10pm CET).
World peace depends critically on two things: Justice in Palestine and democracy in America. Both depend on governments of, by and for all of the People, not for a chosen few. There is a misperception that to be Jewish is to be Zionist, supporting a Jewish state in Palestine. That is not true. Many American Jews understand that a Zionist state cannot be democratic and stand with Palestinians, calling for justice for all. Americans must understand that Zionism and American imperialism are the two excuses for terrorism and the "War on Terror" justifying war for corporate Empire. When they do, they must act to compel Israel to decide whether to negotiate for a just peace or continue to follow a course that is the real existential threat to Israel. We must listen to Israelis who at great personal risk are calling for for an end to the apartheid state. They risk approbation, prison and personal threats for speaking out against the right wing policies of the US government. They must compel Israelis to choose justice for Palestinians instead of a course of action that is the real existential threat to their nation. Our guest on April 2 was Miko Peled, son of a former IDF general turned peace activist, grandson of a signer of the Israeli Declaration of Independence and the author of The General's Son. This show was broadcast on April 6 at 10 AM PST/ 12 PM EST on the Star Com Radio network.
Take Back America for the People is an educational nonprofit whose mission is to reveal to the American public the true costs of corporate control of the US government.
My interview with Miko Peled author and peace activist. Miko talks about the Israeli, Zionist regime and its brutal apartheid, racist treatment of Palestinians, its control of Palestinian land and its resources, which literally imprisons the Palestinian population. We talk about some of the history in the region, and also how the young people are indoctrinated before they leave school and go into the army. Miko talks of a one state solution with people living together in peace and seeing past the labels and conditionings. We also briefly cover the situation with US, Israel, Iran and Syria.

AUTHOR OF: "DEEP PERIL" & "REDEMPTION FOR THE TROUBLE I CAUSED"
AUTHOR BIO: When I was 7 years of age, my father was sentenced to 12 ½ to twenty five years in prison for armed robbery. I always knew who he was to me, I just thought it was natural for fathers to not be around. I rarely saw him when he was out of prison but he did make sure I knew who he was. My mother was brutally murdered when I was 8 years old by her friend who was going through a psychotic episode, she was stabbed through her heart with a butcher knife while my infant baby brother lay 2 feet from her. I lived in foster care for the next 2 years until my maternal grandmother took custody of me. From the ages of 10 - 15 years, I lived and worshiped as a Jehovah Witness; my grandmother was a devout follower until she died in the year 1999. At 15 years of age, I ran away and rarely visited her. I stayed in school and managed to graduate from high school and also went to college for a few months all on my own. I've sold drugs off and on for the past 20 years or so on the mean streets of New York City; currently, I have turned my back on drug dealing and all other negativity associated with it. Throughout my time selling drugs, I acquired multiple felony convictions and was incarcerated for 6 years of my life. Today, I live my life in a more positive manner, I plan to use my books and vast life experiences to influence and perhaps turn people away from that life style. I have a multitude of stories to tell and all my stories have the ring of truth from what I am told. My work is fiction and no story that I write is in any way a true event.
