Norse Code Episode #024: The Mike Zimmer is the F$%king Head Coach Episode.
We bring in guest Jake Liscow from Pro Football Focus and Cincy Jungle to help us learn more about Mike Zimmer and what he can bring.
Jack Del Rio took over an Oakland Raider team that had not made the playoffs in 12 years. The best record over that span was 8-8. The Raiders enter week nine with a 4-4 record and a legitimate chance to make a run at the playoffs. Mike Zimmer took over the Vikings before the 2014 season. After a 7-9 record, in his first season, the Vikings already have a 6-2 mark and are tied with the Green Bay Packers for first place, in the NFC North. This game is more of a must win for the Raiders as they are battling the rest of the AFC for a wildcard. The Vikings still have two games against the Packers that could determine first place.

On this week's episode of "Pro Football View from the East," hosts Joe Tufaro (@Tufdan) and Dennis Agapito (@PFVFE) discuss the return of Rex Ryan to face his old team the New York Jets as head coach of the division rival Buffalo Bills and his controversial decision to name IK Enemkpali, who broke Jets QB Geno Smith's jaw while a member of the Jets, as a team captain for the Bills.
Joe and Dennis also take a look at the quarterback injuries of Andrew Luck, Ben Roethlisberger and the concussion suffered by Vikings QB Teddy Bridgewater. They also look at Vikings coach Mike Zimmer's comments about St. Louis Rams defensive coordinator Gregg Williams and his past involvement with "Bounty-Gate," did the Rams target Bridgewater? They also discuss key week ten games in the NFL as playoff positions are on the line.
This is only week 11, in the NFL, but the game between the Green Bay Packers and Minnesota Vikings will go a long way to determine the NFC North Champion. The Vikings enter the game 7-2, while the Packers are 6-3. If the Vikings beat the Packers they will have a two game lead in the win column, and making the week 17 matchup more intriguing.
Minnesota has not allowed more than 21 points during their five game winning streak. Mike Zimmer came to Minnesota with a strong defensive background. He has implemented a scheme that has them ranked second in the NFL, in points allowed (17.1). Teams have had a hard time running the ball against the eigth ranked rush defense. Evan talks about the sack stat being overrated, which could be the case with the Vikings. They rank 16th in the league with 21 sacks but have gotten enough pressure to be effective and rank 15th against the pass. Offensively, the Vikings will lean on Adrian Peterson who leads the league in rushing, with 961 yards. Peterson averages 21.7 carries per game. Teddy Bridgewater has been average at best, boosting and 84.6 quarterback rating, which actually ranks 34th among all NFL quarterbacks.
The Green Bay Packers are trying to figure out where the disconnect is on offense. During the three game losing streak; the Packers have only scored 17 first half points. The last two weeks have seen the offense come alive in the fourth quarter and tried to mount comebacks. Against the Carolina Panthers they fell yards short, and against the Detroit Lions they missed a two point conversion and a field goal. The Packers have abandoned the run game, and it will be no easy task getting it going against the Vikings. The offense line that was keeping Aaron Rodgers clean in the beginning of the season, have been dominated for three straight weeks. Finally, they need to get their playmakers into space and make plays.
It might be too easy to say we’ve never seen a more upside-down & volatile NFL than we do right now – still three unbeaten teams at the mid-point of the season – teams doing well no one expected (Cincinnati Bengals, Minnesota Vikings, Carolina Panthers, and Oakland Raiders) – teams floundering we expected to be there (Detroit Lions, an entire NFC East, Seattle Seahawks, and Indianapolis Colts) – and, ohhhh how the injuries continue to plague each week with three more QB’s taking hits . . . again.
Nonetheless the guys from The Red Zone Blitz – Frat House Mike & Brandon break-down some of the biggest games: Panthers 37 – Packers 29 / Vikings 21 – Rams 18 / Steelers 38 – Raiders 35 / Colts 27 – Broncos 24 / Eagles 33 – Cowboys 27.
Plus, can you picture Sean Payton coaching another team? (Yeah, I can’t either) Well, the Saints have already told him “go shopping”; and, Vikings head coach Mike Zimmer has some tough “Bountygate” talk for Jeff Fisher.

Hard to believe, but we’re just about to turn the corner into the final quarter of the NFL season as we head toward Week 13. Meanwhile though, there was a lot of action including three big “bust” games on Turkey Day. Nonetheless, the Carolina Panthers remain unbeaten. How likely do they go 16 – 0? Is it time to panic about the Green Bay Packers? The Indianapolis Colts lead their division with a 40 year-old QB, and the Washington Redskins sit atop the NFC-Least. Finally, are the Denver Broncos better without Peyton?
Plus, Frat House Mike & Brandon are breaking-down some of the biggest games: Panthers 33 – Cowboys 14 / Bears 17 – Packers 13 / Colts 25 – Buccaneers 12 / Redskins 20 – Giants 14 / Broncos 30 – Patriots 24.
