    How To Get Started As a New Professional

    This week, Dr. Elvira will be speaking with Sarah Simpson, a current graduate student at the University of Medicine and Dentistry of New Jersey. They will discuss the questions, challenges, and decisions young professionals must face to succeed in today’s complex field of development.
    Sarah Simpson currently works as a Sponsored Research Coordinator in the Office of Research and Project Administration at Princeton University and provides clerical support to ensure proper management of the financial resources committed to research projects undertaken at Princeton.
    Sarah holds a Bachelor of Science degree in public health from Rutgers University and is currently pursuing her Master’s of Public Health, Epidemiology. Her travels around the world have contributed greatly to her interest in pursuing a career in global health to help resolve some of the pressing public health issues we face today. Her most recent international experience was a short-term internship with the Tata Institute of Social Sciences in Mumbai, India where she studied urban health issues in the slum communities.
    Dr. Elvira will also be joined later in the show by Barry Karlin who spent 50 years working within international global health and is the author of an upcoming book about the choices and opportunities that shaped his career.

    Dr. Elvira Beracochea will interview Pastor Timothy Iduuli from Uganda about his work, how his ministry has changed since being coached by Dr. Elvira and his plans for making a bigger difference in his communities.
    Pastor Timothy Iduuli Ronald is married with 4 children. He was ordained to be a pastor under the Discipleship Ministries International, Uganda on 2000.
    As minister of the gospel he works with rural communities and often encounters many challenges within the community. This inspired him to form a faith based organization called the Children of God Fellowship Center. 
    The Center’s main objective is to preach the Gospel by addressing the whole person. This involves:
    Education Health,Care Counselling Marriage and Family Services to the under privileged including the sick, orphans, widows, prisoners, and other youth. His wife, Juliet, works alongside him in ministry and she is a volunteer nurse in a health center which give them more opportunities into addressing health issues in the communities where we preach the gospel.
    Since completing his MIDEGO training, Pastor Timothy has been empowered to influence churches and communities. He has effectively trained more church members to work as volunteers to better serve the community and the Lord.
    Timothy and his wife have reached communities in different issues like malaria, preventive methods, family planning methods, family hygiene, and education in some rural schools.

    How young Global Health Leaders can make a difference

    This week, Elvira will speak with Ahmed Mohammed Sarki, the founder and Executive Director of Family and Youth Health Initiative (FAYOHI), and current Ph.D in Medicine student at the University of Warwick, UK.
    Ahmed has a B.Sc. in Microbiology from Bayero University in Kano state, Nigeria and a M.Sc. Public Health from Oxford Brookes University, UK where he graduated with a distinction in 2010. He also has a diploma in Information System Management and certifications in Monitoring and Evaluation (M&E) awarded by Centers For Disease Control (CDC), African Field Epidemiology Network (AFNET)and E&F Management,  and a certification in Project Management, awarded by Hands-on Institute of Information Technology.
    His interests revolve around humanitarian services especially maternal and child health, communicable and non-communicable diseases, neglected tropical diseases (NTDs) and routine sanitary hygeine. He is also interested in being a part of any new innovation towards providing positive solutions to Public Health issues in low-and-middle-income countries.
    Ahmed founded FAHOYI, a new non-profit, non-governmental organization located in Duste, Jigawa state, Nigeria in 2012. It is currently working to raise awareness on antenatal care among rural women, sensitization of youths through anti-tobacco smoking and drug abuse campaigns, behavior change communication, health protection and promotion in urban and hard to reach settlements, enhancing immunization uptake through public enlightenments, malaria treatment and prevention programs, campaigns for reducing preventable diseases and deaths in Northern Nigeria,  treatment and prevention programs on neglected tropical diseases, raising awareness on the effects and management of cardiovascular diseases particularly hypertension and stroke etc.
