Ed Smith and I recap how the Michigan Wolverines picked up their second consecutive shutout win by blanking the Maryland Terrapins 28-0 on the road, the Michigan State Spartans just barely hanging on to beat the Purdue Boilermakers 24-21 in East Lansing, the Lions unexpectedly coming up just 3 points short to the Seattle Seahawks 13-10 in Seattle, and the 2015 MLB regular season that was so horrible for Brad Ausmus and the highly-talented Tigers.
The Boilermakers turn toward Big Ten play Saturday, hoping they can correct the mistakes of their non-conference season. Coming up on Gold and Black Radio, we'll break down Purdue's first opponent, No. 2 Michigan State, as the Boilermakers travel to East Lansing. What will it take for Purdue to compete? We talk to Lansing State Journal columnist Graham Couch about the Spartans, plus BTN.com senior writer Tom Dienhart about the Big Ten. And our feature is on Gregory Phillips, who stepped into a big role last week and should have one again Saturday. That, plus recruiting, analysis, our predictions and more.

The Tigers General Manager Al Avila announced that Brad Ausmus will remain their manager for the 3rd and final year of his contract. Ed Smith and I analyze why Ausmus may be better than Ron Gardenhire, the man Justin Spiro reported earlier was going to be the next manager.
We also recap Week 4 of College Football in the Mitten involving the Central Michigan Chippewas/#2 Michigan State Spartans and #22 BYU Cougars/Michigan Wolverines matchups and Week 3 for the Lions at home against the Denver Broncos.
Plus, what is going on with the Wings in overtime this preseason? They're 0-3 in the new 3-on-3 extra frame thus far. Are they only getting warmed up? Or do they need to improve?

Ed Smith and I recap and break down what happened in Week 3 of College Football in the Mitten involving the matchup between the Michigan Wolverines and the Nevada-Las Vegas Rebels at Michigan Stadium in Ann Arbor and the matchup between the Michigan State Spartans and the Air Force Falcons. We also list all the things the Lions did wrong in their 26-16 loss to the Vikings at Minnesota in Week 2.
Last Friday night, after the 5-4, 12-inning win over the Kansas City Royals at Comerica Park, Justin Verlander said he didn't want the fans to boo. He said he wanted them to be positive. That was after Brad Ausmus pulled him for Alex Wilson, who gave up a game-tying 2-run home run. What's that all about???
Red Wings center Darren Helm collided with prospect Jerome Verrier at training camp and went under concussion protocol, and he was diagnosed with a slight shoulder separation and will be out 2-4 months.

Multiple sources are headlining that Tigers manager Brad Ausmus's job is in "serious jeopardy". He could either be fired sometime really soon or on Black Monday, October 5th, the day after their 2015 MLB regular season comes to a screeching halt.
The Lions made 2 cut moves Saturday, one them which was shocking and the other no so much. They released tight end Joseph Fauria and backup quarterback Kellen Moore. Also, they added surprising undrafted rookie sensation running back Zach Zenner to the 53-man roster.
This past Friday, the Michigan State Spartans Football team held on to beat the Western Michigan Broncos 37-24 at Waldo Stadium to start their regular season.

Ed Smith makes his return as my co-host on the Detroit Sports Truth! First, we talk about everything bad that Tigers manager Brad Ausmus has done, and everything that he didn't do that he really should've done. We also talk about Detroit Sports Rag #2-in-command Justin Spiro holding up the "Fire Ausmus" and "Hire Acta" signs and getting assaulted by the fan behind him at Wrigley Field. Then I allow him to give me and the Detroit sports world his predictions on the Lions, Michigan Wolverines, and Michigan State Spartans.
Satchmo and DB discuss Michigan State's thrilling 31-28 victory over Oregon and look at we've learned about the Spartans so far this season -- including strengths, weaknesses and what the Spartans need work on in order to reach the Ohio State game with no losses. They also look ahead to this weekend's game against Air Force and discuss other college football news of note.
