On August 9, 2014 Michael Brown, an unarmed young black man in Ferguson, MO, was killed by a white police officer. Last week a St Louis County grand jury decided not to return an indictment on Darren Wilson, the police officer who shot and killed Michael Brown.
The community is divided and outraged and public outcry is showing no sign of abating. The city, county, and state goovernments seem to have bungled this case every step of teh way.
From Emmett Till to Trayvon Martin to Sean Bell to Eric Garner to Michael Brown, this is an all too familiar scene in this country.
The New York City grand jury investigating the killing of Eric Garner by chokehold has just returned a no-indictment on the police officer involved.
Join us and special guest Deborah Jacobs, a St Louis-based policy expert and activist, for a discussion of the Michael Brown shooting and the aftermath and the devaluation of young black life in America and what we can do about it.

Getting the Facts Right About the Ferguson Grand Jury Decision...
The grand jury decision not to indict Darren Wilson for the shooting of Michael Brown has ignited a firestorm of commentary and disagreement. Debate is to be expected in a large and diverse society such as ours. But as an attorney and a law professor, I am particularly troubled to see so many people relying on incorrect facts to support their position.
Outside the City Hall, crowds flip a police cruiser on its side briefly, break out its windows, then set it on fire. Police move in quickly to put it out. They use pepper gas and tell the crowd over loudspeakers to disperse.National Guardsmen in full riot gear stand in a line at the Ferguson Police Department. In front of them, a row of police officers, also in riot gear. Just one lane of road separates them from hundreds of protesters. Gunshots, looting after grand jury in Ferguson case does not indict officer in Michael Brown shooting.

Cops Are Buying Cameras. Should You Buy the Camera Company?
On Monday, December 1, 2014, President Obama vowed to build more trust between communities and police. According to WhiteHouse.gov, “Part of the proposal is a new Body Worn Camera As Partnership Program, which would provide a 50 percent match to states and localities that purchase body worn cameras and requisite storage. In fact, the proposed $75 million, three-year investment could help purchase 50,000 body worn cameras.”
This is great news for underserved communities. But it is also great news for Taser International, a leading provider of the video-cam of choice for police officers, the Taser Axon Flex.
Could cameras on cops prevent future Ferguson and Staten Island tragedies?
For additional information on my analysis of Taser, read the article, "Cops are Buying Cameras. Should You Buy the Camera Company?" at the link directly below.
