Health Month: Colon Cancer with Michael Sapienza

    in Lifestyle

Michael Sapienza's first love was music.  He received his Master of Music degree from Rice University and Bachelor of Music degree from Northwestern University and was a member of the Civic Orchestra of Chicago. Michael was awarded a position with the New World Symphony Orchestra. He served on faculty at the North Carolina Governor's School as instructor of trumpet and wind ensemble. He has performed with the Millar Brass Ensemble, Ars Viva Symphony Orchestra, Northwest Indiana Symphony, and Rockford Symphony.  But, then something happened that change the trajectory of his life.  "I remember the day when my mom called me and told me that she had been diagnosed with colon cancer. It was actually October 4, 2006. I was living in Miami Beach, Florida.   I was playing in an orchestra.  I moved back home about two months before she passed and we actually decided as a family to participate in scope it out 5k run/walk in her memory and our journey to form Chris4Life had begun."  Now, I dedicate my entire time to fighting this most preventable disease and helping those who have been stricken with it in some way.

April is Oral Cancer Awareness Month

    in Family

Did you get an oral cancer screening? Are you sure? Seems most people don’t know if they have had this important screening or not. What is it, what does it feel like, and do you really want to wait for noticeable symptoms of loose teeth and difficulty swallowing. One person an hour dies of oral cancer. If you’re not getting an oral cancer screening ask for one, if you’re not telling your patients they’re getting one, start talking!

Corinne Jameson-Kuehl, RDH, BS, OMT is from Hartland, Wisconsin and has been involved in the dental field for over 20 years.  Corinne graduated from Marquette University, and the Coulson Institute of Oral Myology.  She is an experienced private practice clinician, practice development consultant and previous dental staffing company founder and owner. Corinne provides Orofacial therapy through her business, “Orofacial Myofunctional Therapy of Wisconsin, which provides evaluation and care for oral dysfunction.” She is the co-chair of the Oral Cancer Foundation in Wisconsin, and is passionate about providing oral cancer awareness to health care professionals.  She can be contacted at happywisconsinfaces@gmail.com
