How to Start and Build a Cross-Cultural Mentoring Program

    in Training

How do you start and build a cross-cultural mentoring program? When we think of mentoring programs in the workplace, we tend to think of programs that carefully match mentors and mentees who share some or a lot of cultural similarities.

But there’s another approach to mentor/mentee matching and that is identifying and pairing mentors and mentees who cross different cultures, such as mentors and mentees who come from different races, genders, ethnicities, religions, cultural backgrounds, socioeconomic backgrounds, sexual orientations, or nationality.

Today I will discuss this topic with my guest Jodi Davidson, Director of Diversity & Inclusion Initiatives at Sodexo.

Vicki Wright, founder and executive director of Transitions Mentoring Ministry is our guest today. Growing up on a farm with plenty of opportunity to enjoy the outdoors and sports, she found herself majoring in physical education which led to a Masters degree in physical education with an emphasis in administration. After graduating, she became a high school teacher coaching gymnastics, cheerleading, and volley ball.

After teaching school, Vicki became the President and owner of Tumble Tots, Inc., a mobile pre-school gymnastics program. Continuing with her passion for the sport of gymnastics, Vicki also coached at Ball State University, North Central High School, Miss Juanita’s Apple Juice Kids Child Care, Jireh Sports Urban Minstry, and Charles A. The Importance of Having a Great Mentor

    in Motivation

Ask any successful person in life and he/she will tell you they have a mentor who they follow, listen to, seek advice, etc. For some of us, that person could be a parent or a family member. But what if we are not so fortunate to have that person in our life? What if the people in your immediate circle aren't necessarily living the life or following the path that you envisioned for yourself? If you are the smartest and/or most successful person in your inner circle, you definitely need to broaden your sphere of influence. We are going to discuss why everyone should have a mentor in different areas of their life, how to recognize a mentor and what part you should play in the mentor/mentee relationship.
