Boston Councilor McCarthy looks to build on 1st term

    in Politics Progressive

Boston District 5 Cty Councilor Tim McCarthy is all about the number-one selling point for local pols — constituent services. He's been at it for a long time working with and for Mayor Tom Menino. He was head of Neighborhood Services and high ranking in Public Works.

We'll delve into what he sees as his accomplishments in his first term in what was Menino's seat, then Rob Consalvo's. He's been in the scrum with the rest of his body on budgets, contract negotiations, a casino, an Olympics bid and more. Yet for his neighborhoods, his vision is separate and less politicized.

Decidedly a bring-home-the-bacon guy, he wants a better local business climate as well as fair shares from city and state departments and agencies. Of course, we'll also hit on how his contested campaign is faring.

Boston Leadership: Portraits of Purpose with Don West and Kenneth J. Cooper

Salute To Boston’s Diverse Leadership: Portraits Of Purpose

With Co-Authors Don West and Kenneth J. Cooper

Now that Boston has officially become a “Majority-Minority” city, with 53% of its residence non-white, it’s time to showcase the many contributions of its diverse citizens.  That’s now been done in a graphically rich new “coffee table” book: Portraits of Purpose: A Tribute To Leadership.

Portraits of Purpose is a visual chronicle of 127 Boston-based African American leaders and their allies who have continued the pursuit of freedom and justice in a post-civil rights era.   Renowned Boston photographer Don West and Pulitzer Prize-winning journalist Kenneth J. Cooper teamed up to capture the images and shared the stories of these significant individuals of conscience.  From Charles Ogletree, Jr. and Cheng Imm Tan to Elma Lewis and the up and coming Tulaine Montgomery, these leaders of action are portrayed for the significant contributions they have made to the region…and the country.

    Boston's Councilor Murphy

    in Politics Progressive

This week's guest is Boston City Councilor Steve Murphy. He earned stripes on top of stripes, as long-time financial guru of the body along with a couple of terms as its President. While a quiet type, he has always been one of the highest vote-getters among the at-large councilors.

Since he termed-ut of the presidency, he seems to have been more active proposing legislation. For example, he has driven a change to update our antiquated liquor licensing structure with BYOB ability for the many restaurants which don't have a coveted beer/wine license.

We'll likely have a rambling discussion, including of course how he compares and contrasts previous Mayor Tom Menino and current Marty Walsh. Also, this is an election year for Council, so we'll hit on his platform.

"Sirs" - Os Cavaleiros desta Era ("Sirs" - The Knights of this Age)

    in Christianity

Sir derives from the Old French Sieur (he own a contraction of Seigneur meaning "lord"), from the Latin adjective senior. In formal protocol Sir is the correct style for a knight or a baron (the rank of nobility from the UK just below all peers of the realm), used with the proper name of the rider or the full name, but not with the surname only.
A knight (/ na?t /) is a person with an honorary knighthood by a monarch or other political leader for service to the monarch or country.
The word knight, from Old English cniht ("boy" or "servant"), is a cognate of the German word Knecht ("servant, slave").
