The Mega Church: How many Sheep is Too Much Sheep?

    in Christianity

Jesus said in Mark 16:15, ““Go into all the world and preach the gospel to every creature.” He forgot to mention how many people we are to preach to. Recently, I discovered an event that took place in North Carolina and it got ugly. This problem involved one of the fastest growing churches in America but the news media, in that area, wasn’t happy about the growth, nor the leader building a new house. So what do you think? How many sheep is too much sheep?

    in Books

Tyora Moody will be my guest on October 30th at 6pm EST.  Tyora is the author Soul-Searching Suspense novels in the Serena Manchester Series, Victory Gospel Series and the Eugeena Patterson Mysteries.  Ty is multi-faceted, and is also a literary-focused entrepreneur that has assisted countless authors with developing an online presence via her design and marketing company, Tywebbin Creations LLC.  Her latest novel, When Perfection Fails, is Book 3 in the Victory Gospel Series.  No matter what Tyora does, she serves up a creative mix, flavored with Faith!

    Book Blurb:

Reverend Jonathan Freeman and his wife Lenora are quickly becoming Charlotte’s “it” couple. All eyes are on them as Jonathan is named pastor of a church following the death of his father and Lenora has become a sought-after wedding planner. The Freemans are media darlings and a model couple; the picture of perfection. Or are they?

Behind the scenes, Jonathan struggles with his role as pastor of a megachurch while Lenora grows increasingly and uncharacteristically distant. A number of odd and tragic incidents push her further away from the love of her life and the façade of perfection begins to crack.

A carefully guarded secret catches up with Lenora and it threatens her security as well as that of her family. Has an imperfect past finally caught up with her? Will the ghost of someone she thought long dead rise like Lazarus from the grave and destroy all she has worked to preserve? Or will Lenora fight to protect the man she loves and the beautiful life God has blessed her to have?

    "Playing Saint" with Zachary Bartels

    in Books

Yesterday, Parker Saint’s only concern was his swiftly rising star power. Today, he’s just trying to stay alive.

Parker Saint is living the dream. A cushy job at a thriving megachurch has him on the verge of becoming a bestselling author and broadcast celebrity—until life takes an abrupt turn that lands him on the wrong side of the law. To avoid a public scandal, he agrees to consult with the police on a series of brutal murders linked by strange religious symbols scrawled on each victim.

Parker tries to play the expert, but he is clearly in over his head. Drawn ever deeper into a web of intrigue involving a demanding detective, a trio of secretive Vatican operatives, and a centuries-old conspiracy to conceal a mysterious relic, he realizes for the first time that the battle between good and evil is all too real—and that the killer is coming back . . . this time for him..

An award-winning preacher and Bible teacher, Zachary Bartels has been serving as pastor of Judson Baptist Church in Lansing, Michigan, for nearly ten years. He earned his BA in world religions from Cornerstone University and his Masters of Divinity from Grand Rapids Theological Seminary. He enjoys film, fine cigars, stimulating conversation, gourmet coffee, reading, writing, and cycling.

His debut novel, Playing Saint, has been called an “intrigue-filled thriller” (Library Journal) and “a page-turner from the very beginning . . . gripping and realistic” (RT Book Reviews). His next book, The Last Con (HarperCollins Christian Fiction) will be released in the summer of 2015. He lives in the capital city of a mitten-shaped Midwestern state with his wife Erin and their son.

    in Books

Rob Peabody serves as the co-founder and director of Awaken, a non-profit charity that exists to resource the church for action. In 2011, Rob, along with his wife, Medea, and their two boys, left his position as lead campus pastor of a megachurch in Texas to pioneer and lead fresh expressions of church seeking to engage unreached 20’s & 30’s in northeast London.

This work is commissioned by the International Mission Board of the SBC and in partnership with the Church of England. Rob currently serves as a missional consultant for multiple church networks in the UK, is a member of the Speaking Team at Spring Harvest, and is charged with casting vision and leading a new upcoming national UK 18-30’s conference - The Pursuit - taking place May 2015.

Beyond speaking at conferences in the US and UK, Rob has also written a small group film series entitled Kingdom Rise, released March 2013.

Melanie M. Jeschke was born in the North (Pittsburgh, PA) and grew up in the South (Richmond, VA), attending the University of Virginia where she met her husband of thirty years, Bill Jeschke. Together we have nine beautiful children (three daughters and six sons) and have pioneered a non-denominational Christian church called The King's Chapel in Fairfax, Virginia, just outside Washington, D.C.
She has had the miraculous adventure of attending a conference on C.S. Lewis at both Oxford and Cambridge Universities which inspired her to begin writing travel articles and eventually my series of historical/romance novels, The Oxford Chronicles.
