Welcome to TECH Talk, Texas Style – “Because Technology Doesn’t Commercialize Itself”! We’re broadcasting from the offices of TECH Fort Worth.
TECH Talk is online to bring to you the best and the brightest: news and information, people and their experiences, expert advice and regional resources. We do this to link talent, technology, capital and know-how so that we can be agents of change to accelerate the development of new technologies and to strengthen Texas economies.
I’m visiting today with Michael Wiklund and Jonathan Kendler with UL Life & Health about Human Factors Engineering (HFE) and how it can lead to safer interactions with users and medical devices. We’re going to explore how HFE applies to the development of medical technology and how it can make these devices safer and more effective.

Whither the Family Medical History? As a family fanatic in a "Families Only" practice, I love the FMH and use it daily- over and over again. It's rich and useful and ever changing. A JAMA Viewpoint will be the stimulus for my comments.
Food: It's killing us and saving us at the same time. Get a fork! is one of my current dogmas. Is it that simple? No wheat. More nuts. More forks.?
I'm still having fun in practice. I may be somewhat delusional since the walls are moving in with IT and EMR's everywhere. I do fear the loss of my voice as a Family Physician. I comment on my blog about the Voice of Family Medicine.
Hour one: Rivetz. Steven Sprague, CEO
Rivetz makes it simple to connect web services to trusted hardware in phones, tablets and PC's. When you can trust a device to provide basic uncompromised instructions and transactions, you can deliver more value with more convenience. A Rivet can hold secrets and craft instructions in a physically and cryptographically isolated hardware environment on the device. This establishes trust, and by extension, simplicity, between online services and their users.
Hour two: NeuroMetrix. Frank McGillin, Senior Vice President and General Manager, Consumer Health
NeuroMetrix is an innovative health-care company that develops wearable medical technology and point-of-care test that help patients and physicians better manage chronic pain, nerve diseases, and sleep disorders. Hear about Quell, is a wearable device for relief of chronic pain, such as nerve pain due to diabetes and lower back problems.
This show is the amazing story of Jade Grace, who grew up with a mother who lived in an iron lung. The iron lung was a tank respirator used to help people artificially breathe used often during the polio epedemic. It's use was usually only for several weeks until the lungs regained strength. For some like Jade's mother, it was for a lifetime. She lived 30 years on the iron lung. Jade's story is about a child's experience of interacting and loving a mother who was lived in an iron lung. Many on iron lungs were confined to institutions but Jade's father had the resources to keep her at home with all the necessary care. She even summered on Catalina Island with the family. Jade's story is a part of medical history that everyone should hear about. Her stories are capitvating and heartwarming. Be sure to tune.
The TalentCulture #TChat Show will be live from the IT@Cork European Technology Summit in Cork, Ireland on Wednesday, May 6, 2015, from 6-7pm GMT (1-2pm ET, 10-11am PT).
Last week we talked about how to amaze every customer every time, and this week we're going to talk about impact of gender diversity on technology business performance around the world.
A University of Cambridge study has observed that Ireland is fifth in the world for female economic power, ranking just behind Australia, Norway, Denmark and Finland.
Overall the state of women in tech and business isn’t great, but academic institutions are now seeing companies and STEM-based industries develop diverse talent pools that improve business performance.
Join TalentCulture #TChat Show co-founders and co-hosts Meghan M. Biro and Kevin W. Grossman as we welcome our special guests from the IT@Cork European Technology Summit: David Parry-Jones, VP UKI Vmware; Caroline O’Driscoll, Tax Partner at KPMG, Vice Chair of IT@cork; and Michael Loftus, Head of Faculty of Engineering & Science at CIT.
Thank you to all our TalentCulture sponsors and partners: Dice, Jibe, TalentWise, Hootsuite, IBM, CareerBuilder, PeopleFluent, PAW and HRmarketer Insight. Plus, we're big CandE supporters!

We are witnesses to the advent of a new age: a medical and recreational one. And unless you’ve been behind a cloud of smoke, we’ve recently witnessed more than 20 states approve marijuana use for medicinal purposes. Fadia Bascom, our awesome guest host, takes over the airwaves once again to discuss marijuana in America. Her two special guests are Larry Love and Sohum Shah.
Sohum Shah is the Chief Operating Officer of the Cannabis Commodities Exchange (CCX). CCX is the premier online wholesale transaction platform for state-licensed canna-businesses in Colorado and was launched at the 2014 High Times US Cannabis Cup in Denver. Soon after, CCX expanded operations to Washington's adult-use system.
Larry Love has been a patient and advocate for the Medical Cannabis Program (MC) in New Mexico since 2009. He also produces and hosts a weekly live MMJ Talk Show on the internet. For two years, Love managed one of Santa Fe’s first Medical Marijuana Dispensaries which specialized in front-end sales and patient cannabis consultations. In addition, Love's a LOTTO expert and has appeared on several networks including NBC, ABC, CBS, and CNN.
