    Tonight- Legal issues for patients (and their caregivers) getting doctor recommendations at hotels, expos, and trade shows, continue. Even after warnings and expert advice from amongst the most credible legal analysts on the issue in the state, some event coordinators refuse to stop the practice. Making matters worse, some of the doctors writing these recommendations at the hotel conferences and other non- traditional forums, will not offer adequate support in court for their patients, when in need.

    Tonight- The US Senate is pending a vote on a spending bill that includes an amendment to defund Department of Justice actions on medical marijuana activity in states where it is allowed. Some law enforcement agencies, including California Sheriff's Association have been lobbying against the amendment. Also, update the Safer Michigan Coalition and the local ballot initiative efforts taking place throughout the state.


     


    Calling in tonight to discuss "cop lobbying" and what is currently going on in the US Senate and elsewhere- Diane Wattles Goldstein - a veteran of law enforcement who retired as the first female lieutenant for the Redondo Beach Police Department, (CA). She is a speaker and Executive Board Member for Law Enforcement Against Prohibition (LEAP), serving as Chief of Staff for Dale Sky Jones , and the Coalition for Cannabis Policy Reform. Diane has also appeared on many television and radio broadcasts and is a guest columnist for many publications including 'Ladybug' magazine.


     


    Also- Founders of the Safer Michigan Coalition Charles Ream recently announced as this year's recipient of the High Time's Life Time Achievement Award - and the Godfather Tim Beck will update us on the local ballot progress around the state.

    Tonight- The discussion continues on SB 783, a bill that would change the Michigan Medical Marihuana Act and allow landlords to prohibit medical marijuana activity on private property, was introduced by Senator Jones and was subsequently heard in the Senate Judiciary, chaired by Senator Jones and passed out of committee unanimously in an inordinate amount of time.The student government at Central Michigan University passed a marijuana reform measure through the student government House and Senate where it now awaits consideration from the student body president. We will also revisit the issue of owning and possessing firearms while being a Michigan Medical Marihuana Program participant.


    Joining us tonight- Robin Schneider, legislative liaison for the National Patients Rights Association, attended the Senate Judiciary hearing and offered testimony. Robin has also had discussions with groups in support of the measure. Josey Scoggin, founder and President of Sons & Daughters United, and Executive Director of Capital Area Compassion, also attended the hearing and offered testimony.


    Ian Elliot from Student Advocates for Medical and Recreational Cannabis, a group formed as a registered student organization in the Fall of 2013 at Central Michigan University, will be calling in as well.

    Brad Burge is Director of Communications and Marketing for the Multidisciplinary Association for Psychedelic Studies (MAPS). He earned his B.A. in Communication and Psychology from Stanford University in 2005 and his M.A. in Communication from the University of California, San Diego in 2009. His graduate work focused on the political, scientific, and cultural changes required to make illicit drugs into legitimate medicines. In 2009, he presented his work on the history of the distinction between the recreational and medical use of drugs at the Critical Legal Studies conference at the University of Leicester in the UK. He has also interned for the Drug Policy Alliance and has a longstanding interest in drug policy reform and activism. He began working with MAPS as an intern in 2009, joining the staff in January 2011. Brad believes in the importance of communication for helping people develop honest and responsible relationships with themselves, each other, and their pharmacological tools. He lives in Santa Cruz, California.

    Tonight- Michigan's 2014 lame duck legislative session ended last week with two bills passing in the senate that pave the way for industrial hemp research in the state. The industrial hemp bills are now awaiting action from the Governor. The 2014 legislative session also ended without two  patient friendly medical marijuana bills being brought up for a vote on the senate floor.

And attorney Dan Grow who is representing Mr. Kowalski.


    Also, an amendment to prohibit the DOJ from spending taxpayer money to undermine state medical marijuana laws is included in the 1.1 trillion dollar budget bill being prepared for a vote by the end of this week, or early next week.
