Prayer and The Word Of God

    in Religion

When YOU PRAY the WORD things happen.....

Jacob wrestled, not so much with a promise, as with the Promiser. We must take hold of the Promiser, lest the promise prove nugatory. Prayer may well be defined as that force which vitalizes and energizes the Word of God, by taking hold of God, Himself. By taking hold of the Promiser, prayer reissues, and makes personal the promise. "There is none that stirreth up himself to take hold of Me," is God's sad lament. "Let him take hold of My strength, that he may make peace with Me," is God's recipe for prayer.

Epaphras prayed that the Colossians might stand "perfect and complete in all the will of God." This is proof positive that, not only may we know the will of God, but that we may know all the will of God. And not only may we know all the will of God, but we may do all the will of God. We may, moreover, do all the will of God, not occasionally, or by a mere impulse, but with a settled habit of conduct. Still further, it shows us that we may not only do the will of God externally, but from the heart, doing it cheerfully, without reluctance, or secret disinclination, or any drawing or holding back from the intimate presence of the Lord. (E.M.Bounds

Isaiah 41:31 but those who hope in the LORD will renew their strength. They will soar on wings like eagles; they will run and not grow weary, they will walk and not be faint.

Matthew 26:41  Keep watch with prayer, so that you may not be put to the test: the spirit truly is ready, but the flesh is feeble.

Gospel of Matthew 5: 1 Now when Jesus saw the crowds, he went up on a mountainside and sat down. His disciples came to him, 2 and he began to teach them.3  “Blessed are the poor in spirit, for theirs is the kingdom of heaven.4 Blessed are those who mourn, for they will be comforted.5 Blessed are the meek, for they will inherit the earth.6 Blessed are those who hunger and thirst for righteousness, for they will be filled.7 Blessed are the merciful, for they will be shown mercy.8 Blessed are the pure in heart, for they will see God.9 Blessed are the peacemakers, for they will be called children of God.10 Blessed are those who are persecuted because of righteousness, for theirs is the kingdom of heaven.11 “Blessed are you when people insult you, persecute you and falsely say all kinds of evil against you because of me. 12 Rejoice and be glad, because great is your reward in heaven, for in the same way they persecuted the prophets who were before you.

DO YOU HAVE A SECRET? WHAT IS A SECRET...IS IT WRONG/SIN TO HAVE A SECRET FROM OTHERS? WHY?

    Mark 4:22-23 ESV

For nothing is hidden except to be made manifest; nor is anything secret except to come to light. If anyone has ears to hear, let him hear.”

    Matthew 10:26-28 ESV / 102 helpful votes

“So have no fear of them, for nothing is covered that will not be revealed, or hidden that will not be known. What I tell you in the dark, say in the light, and what you hear whispered, proclaim on the housetops. And do not fear those who kill the body but cannot kill the soul. Rather fear him who can destroy both soul and body in hell.

    Ephesians 5:6-14 ESV / 9 helpful votes

Let no one deceive you with empty words, for because of these things the wrath of God comes upon the sons of disobedience. Therefore do not become partners with them; for at one time you were darkness, but now you are light in the Lord. Walk as children of light (for the fruit of light is found in all that is good and right and true), and try to discern what is pleasing to the Lord. ...

    Proverbs 12:13 ESV

An evil man is ensnared by the transgression of his lips, but the righteous escapes from trouble.

Let's pray like: Jesus, King David, Daniel, Prophetess Anna, Paul and Silas and you!

    Luke 18:1 (KJV)
    1 And he spake a parable unto them to this end, that men ought always to pray, and not to faint;

    Matthew 6:9-13 (KJV)

9 After this manner therefore pray ye: Our Father which art in heaven, Hallowed be thy name.
10 Thy kingdom come. Thy will be done in earth, as it is in heaven.
11 Give us this day our daily bread.
12 And forgive us our debts, as we forgive our debtors.
13 And lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil: For thine is the kingdom, and the power, and the glory, forever. Amen.

Olivet Discourse Pt. 4: Matt. 24:35-51—Watching for the "Flood"

    in Religion

Matthew 24 & 25 is commonly known as the "Olivet Discourse."

In previous discussions we've noted that Jesus related events associated with His coming to pour out God's wrath upon Jerusalem and all the Jews in order to fulfill prophecy and bring their covenant with Him to an irreversible end in AD 70. He was to "come with the clouds" to consume the flesh of the carcase and to "gather" His elect into the new covenant relationship with Him.

In today's discussion we'll look at two illustrations which prompted the urgency of that generation to be alert for the great and awesome "day of the Lord." It also sets the stage for applying the two opening parables of chp. 25. Those illustrations are "the flood" and "the faithful and sensible slave."

As always, we insist that the teachings of Jesus and His apostles are not merely based on the prophets; but they are the God-inspired words which show a promise-keeping God fulfilling His word!
