Combining the eloquence and raw sensuality of Jeanette Winterson with the romantic, renegade spirit of Patti Smith, Further Out Than You Thought is a taut and erotically charged literary debut, set against the chaos of the 1992 L.A. riots, about three people searching for identity and meaning from award-winning poet and indie bookshop co-founder Michaela Carter.
In the Neverland that is Los Angeles, where make-believe seems real, three dreamers find themselves on the verge of transformation. Twenty-five-year-old poet Gwendolyn Griffin works as a stripper to put herself through graduate school. Her perpetually stoned boyfriend Leo dresses in period costume to hawk his music downtown, and seems to be losing his already tenuous grip on reality. And their flamboyant best friend and neighbor, nightclub crooner Count Valiant, is slowly withering away.
When the city explodes in violence after the Rodney King verdict, the chaos becomes a catalyst for change. Valiant is invigorated, Leo plans a new stunt—walking into east L.A., naked, holding a white flag—and Gwen, discovering she is pregnant, is confronted by troubling questions. Can Leo become a good, dependable father? Can she leave the club life behind, or will the city’s spell prove too seductive?
Combining poetry and sensuality with an edgy urban sensibility, Further Out Than You Thought is a celebration of life and a haunting story of love, friendship, and one woman’s quest for redemption.
John Rataczak was born in Columbia, Missouri and raised in the St. Louis area. He was saved at an early age through the ministry of the Chatham Bible Church of Wellston, Missouri (now located in Hazelwood, Missouri).
His father was a chemical engineer and his mother was a housewife. Both were saved during John’s early childhood years. Certainly the truth of Acts 16:31 applies in this case: in a short time all the members of the family received Christ as Savior! Both Ed and Mary (his parents) are now with the Lord.
God led John to become involved in full time Christian work during his freshman year at Bob Jones University. Since that calling, he has earned a B.A. in Bible, an M.A. in Pastoral Studies, and a Ph.D. in New Testament Text (Greek).
His teaching experience includes teaching Greek, Hebrew, Theology, Apologetics, Church History, English Bible, and various Biblical Backgrounds courses in three Christian colleges and two graduate schools. In addition, he served as a soccer coach in two ministries.
His pastoral experience includes ministries in Pennsylvania and Ohio. He has filled the pulpit of many Bible-believing churches in a number of states as well and plans to initiate a Bible Conference ministry as God supplies the opportunity.
Presently he is the founder and sole proprietor of Eleutheros Books.

Meaning, is the model of getting an undergraduate degree (or even a graduate degree), and then entering the job force going the way of the dinosaur? In other words, is it a better investment for younger people to skip college and go the route of entrepreneurship? Let's talk about it!

Globalization is making our world smaller with cross-cultural situations at the core. Even though diversity can be a powerful source for creativity, adaptability and innovation, the potential for conflict increases, requiring even more attention to how we deal with differences and how people work together. An “all-or-nothing” thinking and a right/wrong mindset lead people to play blame games and get stuck judging others instead of looking forward to resolve the matter at hand. Can we get “unstuck”?

Police Captain Dan Willis is a former homicide investigator and SWAT commander who has developed wellness programs and specializes in providing emotional survival and wellness training to first responders. He is a graduate of San Diego State University and the FBI National Academy.
Emergency first responders suffer immeasurably from being consistently immersed in suffering, danger, evil, violence, and tragedies that scar their souls. Offering advice and support for understanding the challenges of responding to violence and suffering, Bulletproof Spirit shows first responders and their loved ones how to protect and nurture their spirits, and also how to seek help and make effective use of the help that exists, from professionals, peers, and families.
Without specific training regarding how to protect, sustain, and nurture the spirit within, first responders will inevitably continue to become victims of the profession they love. Statistics and headlines speak for themselves as first responders fall victim to destructive habits and disorders, including alcoholism, gambling, depression, PTSD, emotional illness, divorce and broken families and worse — spousal abuse, murder, and suicide. “This leaves the safety of our communities vulnerable since the safety and well-being of any community is critically linked to the wellness of the first responder’s mind, body, and spirit,” according to Willis. Captain Willis is prepared to discuss with your audience:
Bio by Alonzo Garrett... When I was 7 years of age, my father was sentenced to 12 ½ to twenty five years in prison for armed robbery. I always knew who he was to me, I just thought it was natural for fathers to not be around. I rarely saw him when he was out of prison but he did make sure I knew who he was. My mother was brutally murdered when I was 8 years old by her friend who was going through a psychotic episode; she was stabbed through her heart with a butcher knife while my infant baby brother lay 2 feet from her. I lived in foster care for the next 2 years until my maternal grandmother took custody of me. From the ages of 10 - 15 years, I lived and worshiped as a Jehovah Witness; my grandmother was a devout follower until she died in the year 1999. At 15 years of age, I ran away and rarely visited her. I stayed in school and managed to graduate from high school and also went to college for a few months all on my own. I’ve sold drugs off and on for the past 20 years or so on the mean streets of New York City; currently, I have turned my back on drug dealing and all other negativity associated with it. Throughout my time selling drugs, I acquired multiple felony convictions and I was incarcerated for 6 years of my life. Today, I live my life in a more positive manner, I plan to use my books to influence and perhaps turn people away from that life style. I have a multitude of stories to tell and all my stories have the ring of truth from what I am told. My work is fiction and no story that I write is in any way a true event.
