Make DC the 51st State - Support Statehood
Our guests today are two Statehood Activists Valencia Mohammed and Evanna Powell. Valencia moved to Washington, D.C. in January, 1981 to become one of the most outspoken women for the rights of poor Black men, women and children.
Valencia decided to launch a citywide campaign to remove all such derogatory, inaccurate and insensitive books and materials from the school libraries and classrooms. The campaign was a success.
This led to one of her biggest triumphs by becoming one of the first elected Muslim women in the country. She served one term as an at-large member on the D.C. Board of Education from 1992 to 1996. Valencia also ran for the city council unsuccessfully. Currently, she is the field director for the Leo Alexander for DC mayor campaign and a member of Parent Watch, Inc., a non-profit organization that empowers and informs parents how to access the system to obtain services that can assist in the total development of their families
"Most People Don't Really Know Me!" - Marion Barry Jr. Those are the first words written in his book. 3RD EYE OPEN celebrates Marion Barry Jr. as an American Icon. Young Marion became an Eagle Scout and earned a degree in chemistry from LeMoyne College in Memphis in 1958. As a sophomore, Mr. Barry joined the LeMoyne chapter of the National Association for the Advancement of Colored People and became chapter president his senior year. While studying for his master’s degree at Fisk University in Nashville, he organized a campus N.A.A.C.P. chapter. Early in 1960, he helped organize the first lunch counter sit-ins in Nashville. That April, he and other student leaders met with the Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. to establish the Student Nonviolent Coordinating Committee. Mr. Barry became its first national chairman. After a year as a teaching assistant at the University of Tennessee. In June 1965 he moved to Washington, where reporters occasionally referred to him as a “dashiki-clad militant.” A powerful speaker and street campaigner, he began pressing for home rule for the District of Columbia, a battle eventually won. He had found fertile political soil, since residents had only recently won the right to vote in presidential elections and had virtually no say in governing themselves. In 1967, Mr. Barry started a jobs program for poor blacks, winning federal grants worth several million dollars. He won his first election in February 1970, to a citizens’ board created to smooth relations between police officers and black residents. In 1978 he ran for mayor and defeated the incumbent, Walter E. Washington

Unlike too many big box stores, Lunch with Louden is taking Thanksgiving Day off: instead, we are sharing a sneak peek of the Tim Danahey Show, our latest addition to Coffee Talk Radio. This episode, "Election Analysis with Egberto Willies: Where Do We Go From Here" was originally broadcast November 5th on another internet network.
From the Tim Danahey Show post: Egberto Willies is a highly-respected national radio show host and political blogger with a constructive analysis of election results. One-sixth of all American eligible voters chose Republican candidates and the nation's political landscape has changed. What can we now expect from Republicans? What do the Democrats need to do? Has the effect of money in politics completely changed governance in America? Most important: What must we the citizens do?
The Tim Danahey Show started in July, 2010 at internet station Castle Rock Radio. It started as a one-day-per week endeavor and quickly grew to five days per week. The show discusses economics, government, social issues, history, and nonfiction books in a magazine format featuring in-depth conversations with guests. Politics and inflammatory conversations are discouraged as they are divisive and counter-productive. Instead, the show seeks under-reported topics and delves into facts, different perspectives, and ramifications of each perspective. This internet radio show posts five days a week at Danahey.com.
Tim Danahey was recently seated as the Director for Public and Member Outreach for Coffee Party USA.
LUNCH with LOUDEN
Jeanene Louden and co-host Debilyn Molineaux talk about current events and look for opportunities to bridge political divides, expose corruption and share information not covered in mainstream media.
When his son asked him to do a favor one day, Victor never imagined what the results would be. His son wanted help expanding his North American Power team into the new markets in Pennsylvania, Maryland, and New Jersey.
Victor was a corporate professional working in engineering management and didn’t know much about expanding an energy choice team in various states, but when he became a Representative, he found that the free training and free webpage surprisingly helped him find fast success, and soon he became an Area Director.
“What I didn’t expect was an income that would allow me to spend time with my grandsons. When my kids were growing up, I had to spend 60 to 80 hours a week working, and saw so little of them. Now I have the pleasure of sharing this Opportunity to help lots of people with their own personal economic recovery.”
Victor’s wife is also looking forward to spending less time at her job. “That’s great, it’s already helping us meet our future goal of spending lots of time with our two grandsons, and not having to worry about finances while doing so. My suggestion for anyone considering the North American Power Opportunity is to just do it. If not this Opportunity, then what else? There are no more deregulated industries and North American Power is changing the playing field, in fact they’re changing the entire home-based business industry. Just do it!”

The holiday season can be a time of joy and togetherness or it can be a time of stress, conflict and family tension.
It’s important to realize that when families gather, members may not get along, causing tension and awkward interactions. One option is to avoid holiday gatherings altogether. However, this too can create conflict in the family. If one chooses to attend potentially difficult holiday gatherings and deal with the resulting stress and conflict, Lady Jaz will discuss some way to improve your coping strategies and successfully navigate the family holiday season.
Special guest: Tameka Dean from Baltimore, Maryland, will contribute her expert advice on coping with family feuds during the holiday season.
