Knicks Should Hire Mark Jackson, Ditch the Triangle

    in Basketball

I have already written a column imploring the Knicks to hire Mark Jackson and hire him immediately, which will turn Steve Kerr into Steve Who? The New York Times is reporting today that there are three primary candidates, Brian Shaw (who already has a job with the Nuggets), Luke Walton (who has never coached before), and Kurt Rambis, an assistant with the Lakers. The New York Daily News says also in the mix is Derek Fisher, who can't really be interviewed right now given that he is playing in the Western Conference finals for the Oklahoma City Thunder.

Why is it that the new coach coming in has to be a triangle aficianado? Or is that really the case?

How about grabbing a guy who just led the Golden State Warriors to a 51-win season and might have made it out of the first round if he had somebody able-bodied enough to match up with DeAndre Jordan. A guy from New York. A guy who played for the Knicks. Twice.

You know what it is? It would just make too much sense. And when things make sense, the Knicks are usually not involved. Seriously, has there ever been an owner more reviled than Jim Dolan is? Oh yeah, that Steinbrenner guy. But at least he turned the fans his way before it was all said and done. Dolan has a long, long way to go to get there.

More on the Knicks, along with plenty of talk about the NBA playoffs in this interview with Brian Fritz of 740TheGame in Orlando.

Blood in My Eye was completed only days before the martyrdom of George Jackson, August 21, 1971 at the hands of San Quentin prision guards.  While in prision he read widely and transformed into an activist and political theoretician who defined himself as a revolutionary.  As a revolutionary he found meaning in his prision existence.

George Jackson University is designed to turn the criminal mentality into a progressive one. Every prisioner behind bars or walking the streets have the potential to have a changed mentality, and work against the system that enslaved us to begin with.

Author Mark David Gerson visits Reverie Radio

    in Art

Join host Lori Hays for an exciting conversation with author Mark David Gerson for a conversation about his literary journey and his newest book: Birthing Your Book: Even If You Don't Know What It's About

"I like to joke that my Muse tricked me into writing and, in a sense, that's true. In public school and through most of university, I did everything I could to avoid writing. I opted instead for subjects like math; that way, I minimized the dangers of not only being wrong but of being judged harshly for having been wrong.

"But my Muse had other plans, as I write about in Acts of Surrender: A Writer's Memoir. Starting in high school when I was pushed into doing the publicity for two musical theater productions, I was slowly, subtly and unconsciously transformed into the writer I never thought I wanted to be. Within a decade, I was freelancing full-time as a self-taught writer and editor.

"What I have discovered over the years is that The Call To Write is one I can't ignore, which is why I titled my second book The Voice of the Muse: Answering the Call to Write. I can't not write any more than I can't not breathe.

"Today, when I'm not working on my own creative projects, I'm helping to guide others -- writers and non-writers alike -- on theirs. I do it with my books and recordings. I do it in my workshops, webinars and seminars. And I do it one-on-one as a creativity catalyst, a term I invented to take coaching and mentoring to dynamic, more empowered levels.

    ~ Mark David Gerson
