Elena Maria Vidal grew up in the countryside outside of Frederick, Maryland, "fair as the garden of the Lord" as the poet Whittier said. As a child she read so many books that her mother had to put restrictions on her hours of reading. During her teenage years, she spent much of her free time writing stories and short novels.
During a trip to Austria in 1995 she visited the tomb of Empress Maria Theresa in the Capuchin crypt in Vienna. Afterwards she decided to finish a novel about Marie-Antoinette she had started writing ten years before but had put aside. In 1997 her first historical novel TRIANON was published by St. Michael's Press. In 2000, the sequel MADAME ROYALE was published, as well as the second edition of TRIANON, by The Neumann Press. Both books found an international following which continues to this day.
In November 2009, THE NIGHT'S DARK SHADE: A NOVEL OF THE CATHARS was published by Mayapple Books. Elena has written for Canticle Magazine, Touchstone Magazine, The American Conservative and The National Observer.

    in Entertainment

    http://www.antoinettemontague.com/bio.php

Antoinette Montague has a love of humanity and music to bring joy to people. She has played most of the major jazz clubs in New York, and recently returned from Israel with the 46-piece Ashdod Orchestra, and is on her way to to perform with the Belgrade Philharmonic Orchestra in Russia.

Antoinette feels just as appreciated here at home by people who enjoy the spirit she loves to bring inside of her music. Jimmy Heath says, “Antoinette has the instrument, delivery and enunciation, when performing, that touches my soul.”

Jazz Woman to the Rescue is a foundation in the works. It's historic as it visits Ella Fitzgerald, Louis Armstrong, Duke Ellington and living Jazz Heroes on the band stand.

There are 2 elements to the Jazz Woman foundation. "The Play it Forward" program of encouraging people to take old instruments and give them to disenfranchised children.

The second prgram is "Put it Back!" The push for citizens to contact local schools in their community to ask if they have an arts education program for their students. If not, we as taxpayers insist they Put it Back! into the curriculum.

Join Zaiyah and Uptown as they interview this great music activist and humanitarian.

    in Music

March is Women's History Month! Today's show highlights events celebrating Women's International Day & events in Second Life. First up, hear music from Women of the World & India.Arie.Throughout the week I checked out a few shows in Second Life: Seattle-based musician Tukso Okey at Sands Entertainment, Russell Eponym at Ce Soir. I also made it to Musician Melissa Ferrick's monthly gig and James Olmos's show on Concert Window. Since supporting Zap Mama's successful kickstarter campaign, I've been checking out other projects looking for funding. I found a few publishing campaigns that I just love on there. Of course, I'll share what's on the bestseller book list and what I'm reading this week. If you enjoy the show, follow me on twitter and BTR. Happy Listening!
