Heroes of Katrina: Ten Years After-Al Johnson and Dave and Rose...NOLA musicans

    in Books

It was in December 1959 that Alvin Lee Johnson (born June 20, 1939) entered Cosimo Matassa’s recording studio.  He emerged from the studio on Governor Nicholls Street with what would be a belated hit song and a new name, Al “Carnival Time” Johnson.  Joe Ruffino produced the recording session for his Ric label and Carnival Time eventually joined Professor Longhair’s Go to the Mardi Gras and Big Chief, and the Hawkettes’ Mardi Gras Mambo as classics of the New Orleans Mardi Gras.

Johnson, like so many New Orleans musicians, grew up in the city’s Ninth Ward where he played trumpet and piano.  Born in 1939, he was influenced early on by Sugar Boy Crawford, Fats Domino, and Smiley Lewis.

Alvin Johnson, best known for his famous song, "Carnival Time," has been a New Orleans Mardi Gras icon for over 40 years. A Rhythm & Blues performer, Al is a New Orleans Jazz & Heritage Festival veteran and has worked with the likes of Aaron Neville, Oliver Morgan, Bobby Lonero as well as (the late Tommy Ridgley, Jessie Hill, Bobby Mitchell, Eddie Bo & Ernie K-Doe)

Al has performed on the "Louisiana Jukebox" TV program and been the star of a highly successful Louisiana Lottery Mardi Gras campaign. Al has also been the subject of numerous articles in Mardi Gras Guide, New Orleans Magazine, Offbeat Magazine, The Louisiana Weekly, The Times Picayune, and Gambit Weekly.

Also on the show, we have an amazing local New Orleans team...."Dave and Rose"...these fine local musicians will share their music and perspective regarding the 10 years after Katrina... Please join us for a fest of great music and perspective from NOLA musicians...

The Don S. McClure Show Live- LIFE DESIRES

Our Topic for tonight:  Life Desires:

George Eliot, the well-known novelist quoted, “It seems to me we can never give up longing and wishing while we are still alive. There are certain things we feel to be beautiful and good, and we must hunger for them.”  As they say, it is never too late to make wishes! So, never stop making wishes! As humans, we understand and appreciate things better than the other beings and whenever we see something beautiful and captivating, we desire to possess it. It is a natural feeling of want, which is what we call a ‘wish’. From children to adults, everyone has wishes. Kids are taught to ‘make a wish’.

It is a very positive feeling that they get when they make a wish. It’s like elation if your wish comes true.

Wishes may be small or enormous, one that lasts for a few minutes or one that we want with us forever; they may be realistic or they may be far-fetched fantasies! Whatever it is, wishes and aspirations are the ones that keeps humans going! For instance, you work because you wish to earn for a better living. Everyone has aspirations in life. They give the meaning and purpose to our life. Achieving what we wish for, and getting ultimate happiness therein, is what life is all about.

"Journey to love" featuring Tay Clemons

    in Christianity

Greetings to all God's people thank you for your prayers as we journey through life together as children of God. My guest tonight is a young lady name Tay Clemons she goes by Chosen Shantavia, the artist we call Tay, is the epitome of “A Class Act”. Born in the city of Fayetteville, North Carolina. She was the first and only daughter of Elnora Johnson. She is a singer, songwriter, mother and wife. She is dedicated to perfection when it comes to her music. She is an artist who was Chosen to change the world through her illustrious sounds, magnetic personality, electric energy and her desire to be what she was chosen to be, an instrument of change.

The gift of hearing from her musician’s heart and sharing what she receives divinely has been her ultimate goal during her journey. Tay acknowledges that she has been endowed with a gift of song that will change, deliver and set free. She has experienced this in her own life; through her personal struggles and challenges, that there is a powerful force in music that is able to DELIVER.

Though still evolving as an artist, her unique gift of music has opened many doors for her. During her previous years, Tay worked with a number of industry veterans such as Troy Patterson (Third Street Music Group, Mario) Emanuel Seal (Mariah Carey, Usher) and the Clemons Brothers (Dru Hill, Mary J. Blige, Out of Eden). All of these roads led to a place of peace in her life and music, a return to God, the gift giver who had chosen her.
