Tobacco Road Rivalries welcomes Dr. Marcia Shoop to our program to discuss her new book Touchdowns for Jesus, the NCAA and the state of college athletics.
Join us as we welcome author Marcia Strykowski and her new book "Amy's Choice."
We will be diving into Marcia's new young adult novel appropriately titled, "Amy's Choice."
Amy's Choice dives into the life of Amy Henderson and her cast of friends.
Amy's freshman year starts with a new best friend, Cat, and a newfound confidence. But she misses her crush, Craig, who has gone to live with his aunt in Boston. Craig has promised to write, and Amy checks the mail on a daily basis, but to no avail. There are plenty of distractions, however. Cat's brother, Ricky, seems interested in Amy, but is she interested in him? And a new friendship with Finn, the lighthouse keeper, who Amy discovers is a talented artist, keeps Amy and Cat busy as they arrange for him to exhibit his work. But things get complicated when Craig returns from Boston and Finn is accused of arson. There are more questions than answers for Amy as life becomes as turbulent as the cold and stormy ocean of her coastal Maine town.
Ideal for preteens, this novel is the sequel to the critically acclaimed Call Me Amy and touches upon issues of friendship, boyfriend troubles, and the power of believing in oneself.
Tune in as we dive into "Amy's Choice" by author Marcia Strykowski.
Stay tuned and keep it locked.

Marcia Southwick joins us to report on the convention held last week covering guardianship. Attendees came from various perspectives and countries.
The convention was sponsored by the BAR Association and the National Guardianship Association, among many other "stakeholders". Both groups, whose activities are diametrically opposed to their stated purposes, had intended the convention to be a huge marketing campaign.
Attending with the intentions of highlighting the real state of guardianship for profit, was Marcia Southwick and Elaine Renoire from NASGA. Many other advocates and activists, many of whom have been directly impacted by predatory, court facilitated guardianships, were also in attendance.
It's been 6 years since her last visit to the show. Now Marcia Ann Gillespie, Fomer Editor of Ms. and Essence, returns to Conversations LIVE to talk with host Cyrus Webb about the life and legacy of Dr. Maya Angelou that was captured in the book she co-write called MAYA ANGELOU: A Glorious Celebration.

Southport, NC – Practicing and competing involve two distinct mind-sets. While practicing is an intellectual activity, competing is intuitional. When we have a problem on the golf course or the baseball field, our natural tendency is to go back and work on the physical, mechanical aspects of our performance, but you can’t simulate the stress and pressure of competition. What needs to be addressed is your mental focus.
Dr. Marcia Whiting is the founder of Coastal Counseling Clinic, a general counseling practice with a unique focus on sports counseling, specifically golf. Dr. Whiting is the author of Get Birdies: The Mental Aspect of Golf and the creator of the acclaimed golf instructional video: DVI: Determination, Visualization and Implementation, which teaches players to overcome the obstacles presented in competition by our analytical mind.
“A typical golf coach is more interested in the mechanics of your swing and the rules of the game,” says Dr. Whiting. “I am only focused on the problem area of thinking. It’s not their swing, it’s their thinking.”
According to Dr. Whiting, there was a prisoner of war who was kept in a cage for seven years. In order to maintain his sanity through this experience, every day he would play a visual game of golf, complete with the time of year, weather, clothing, where the tees were, where the hole was on the green, all in his mind. He played a perfect game of golf every day in his mind for seven years with no mistakes. He entered the service with a handicap of 16. When he returned home, his handicap was 5.
“It’s all about being present,” says Dr. Whiting. “You’ve done all the necessary work. Decide what you want on your shot; visualize it landing where you want it to land and swing. We do the thinking, analyzing and processing part later.”
