On Saturday night, Manny Pacquiao will face Chris Algieri on HBO PPV, but on the undercard a bout looms that may focus more on where the division is going. Jessie Vargas will defend his WBA world lightweight title against Antonio DeMarco in what could be a coup de gras for who faces Pacquiao next if he is able to win.
Vargas has silently become a champion and built up a bit of hatred along the way, mostly unfairly. It essentially started as hatred and jealously in the begining as he was alined with Mayweather Promotions fighting on major pay-per-views for abnormal sums of money early in his career. Featherweight titlist Vasyl Lomachenko will make his first defense in one of the featured bouts on the undercard. Top Rank promoter Bob Arum made the announcement of Lomachenko's defense against mandatory challenger Chonlatarn Piriyapinyo at a news conference at the Venetian Macao that kicked off a six-city, 12-day media tour that will cover 27,273 miles in two countries, China and the United States. 12-round Welterweight title fight between WBO Welterweight titlist Manny Pacquiao (56-5-2, 38 KOs) and undefeated fast-rising challenger Chris Algieri (20-0, 8 KOs), who started the year off with a February win over Emanuel Taylor on ESPN Friday Night Fights. The fight, from the Venetian Macao’s Cotai Arena in Macau, China, will be produced and distributed live by HBO-Pay-Per-View on Saturday Nov. 22, at 9 p.m. ET
Filipino superstar Manny Pacquiao is determined to fight pound-for-pound king Floyd Mayweather before he hangs up his gloves.
The two biggest names in boxing have so far failed to meet in the ring despite years of calls from fight fans for the pair to get it on to determine the undoubted number one in the welterweight division.
Now, ahead of his battle with the skilled Chris Algieri this weekend, Pacquiao has made clear his intentions in setting up the richest prize fight in boxing history against the majestic Mayweather.
“I do have one specific goal and that is to give the boxing fans the fight they have always asked for – I want the fight too” said Pacquiao, speaking on Mayweather.
“I believe good faith negotiations could produce that fight. But it is impossible to negotiate when you are the only one sitting at the table. Two fighters who want to fight each other have never been kept from fighting each other,” he said. We will be taking live calls on air from you the voice of the people. Despite usual curmudgeonry (nobody that WE know), boxing is threatening to make good on its promise -- NAY -- its loose, non-binding, un-notarized agreement to end the year strong. Good fights are coming from surprising places, even. Heavyweights, if you can believe it. This week on TQBR Radio, James Foley of Bad Left Hook and The Queensberry Rules' Patrick Connor welcome BWAA member and author Brin-Jonathan Butler to run the gauntlet. Who knows where the wind will take us? Butler's interview with Mike Tyson? Wladimir Klitschko's fun KO of Kubrat Pulev? An HBO Latino card (Remember those?)? Manny Pacquiao vs Chris Algieri... and Avocados? THE PPV UNDERCARD??????? We may even throw soome Nathan Cleverly vs Tony Bellew II in there. Thanks for tuning in!

Aside from what was a very fortunate kind of fluke this last week on NBC Sports, 2014 just hasn't panned out very well thus far. A quarter of the way through the calendar year, and we now finally have a significant fight that, on paper, should be competitive and potentially exciting. 2013 turned us into boxing brats, never mind the decades of great scrapping before that. But here we are, staring Tim Bradley vs. Manny Pacquiao II right in the eyes. The rest of the, ahem...Pay Per View card is barely worth mentioning, which sucks. But joining James Foley of Bad Left Hook and Queensberry Rules' Patrick Connor this week is BLH founder and editor Scott Christ. Thanks for tuning in!
Tonight we will discuss the Manny Pacquiao - Tim Bradley fight as it happens and into the post fight reflection.
This bout seems to have gone from having a mild interest from the hardcore fans into one that is recognized as being a crossroads match for both fighters depending who is victorious in the outcome.
For Tim Bradley, this fight means redemption after winning his first meeting on paper with Pacquiao in the ring with the general feeling that he was gifted by the judges in their scoring.
Although his stock as a fighter has risen after defeating Juan Manuel Marquez - the fighter who knocked Manny Pacquiao out cold in devastating fashion - and his thrilling toe to toe battle with Ruslan Provodnikov, this is a chance to finally quell the whispers that question his standing as a fighter who belongs in the upper echelon of the welterweight division.
For Manny Pacquiao, to win this fight is the only option for him if he is to continue on to bigger and better things which means one day having a shot against Floyd "Money" Mayweather.
To avenge his so called loss against Timothy Bradley keeps him in contention as the process to erase the stigma of his devastating knockout loss to Juan Manuel Marquez continues. He now has no choice but to win as a loss to Bradley would be career suicide.
With these compelling factors hanging in the air on fight night as well as the growing list of worthy young and hungry contenders looming over both the heads of these fine combatants, this fight will definitely have an effect on the direction of where the division will go and the subsequent fights that will take place as the entire group reach for the chance at Floyd Mayweather's crown and the huge payday that is sure to come with it.
Bring your opinions, viewpoints and trash talk to the show because it will be a hangout that will almost rival being at ringside itself!
See you there!
