Golden Boy President Oscar De La Hoya said that he will meet with Top Rank CEO Bob Arum “next weekend, face to face, in Los Angeles” in order “to talk about ending the Cold War between Golden Boy and Top Rank.” “We’re going to talk about ending the Cold War between Golden Boy and Top Rank. My objective is to make the big fights,” said De La Hoya. “Golden Boy has fighters that can fight Top Rank fighters and who can make great fights. We want to make great, exciting fights that the people want to see, and that’s what I want to talk to Bob about.”
“You could have Danny Garcia versus Manny Pacquiao. What a fight that would be. That’s what I want to talk to Bob about. Danny Garcia versus Manny Pacquiao? Come on,” said De La Hoya.
“You would have the young, strong bull versus the not-so-young strong bull in Manny. Those are the types of fights and matches that I want to talk to Bob and see what we can come up with.”

Juan Francisco Estrada defeated Hernan “Tyson” Marquez, which was expected, in an incredibly entertaining bout, which was just as expected. The matchup had been anticipated all week, and even longer by flyweight enthusiasts, and the beIN Sports Español main event lived up to those expectations as Estrada recorded 7 knockdowns, including the final knockout blow in the 10th. However, it wasn’t just a one-sided beat down, at least not in the early rounds.
Deontay Wilder successfully defended his WBC heavyweight title in front of his hometown crowd at the Legacy Arena in Birmingham, Alabama. It was Wilder’s first appearance on Al Haymon’s “PBC” series and the first time a heavyweight title was being defended on primetime network TV.

The boxing history podcast is back!
Once more Compubox operator and fight historian Aris Pina joins Patrick Connor of The Fight City to talk boxing and it's long, convoluted and wonderful history. This week on the show, Aris and Patrick discuss the happenings of fights that happened during or around the second week of October in history.
From Tommy Sullivan vs Abe Attell for the featherweight title in 1904; to Henry Armstrong vs Al Manfredo for the welterweight title in 1939; to Alexis Arguello's defense of a featherweight belt over Royal Kobayashi in 1975; and back to Sam Langford vs Sam McVey V (one of their 15 fights total) for the "negro" heavyweight title in 1912... There is no era that's off limits.

Chelsea Avenue blurb:
On July 8th 1987, in Long Branch, New Jersey, The Haunted House Pier and Murphy's Law club fires destroyed not only local landmarks, but everything Manny Santiago found dear.
And it isn't over.
The entity responsible for killing Manny's family and wreaking devastation in the small seaside community has reappeared. Again. As it has every year since. And is growing in power.
Every July 8th it returns, as survivors of the fires, including Manny, are mysteriously led back to the now-vacant seaside lot on Chelsea Avenue, where the entity intends to finish what it started in 1987 once and for all.
