    Walking in Manhattan: Proper Footwear, Proper Foot Care

    On January 27, my guest will be Robert S. Schwartz, C. Ped, president and CEO of Eneslow Pedorthic Enterprises, Inc, which operates Eneslow, The Foot Comfort Center, Eneslow Pedorthic Institute (EPI) and www.eneslow.com. 


    Eneslow, which was founded in 1909, has provided over 100,000 pairs of free shoes for the needy.  EPI, which opened in 1995 as an educational institute, offers courses on conservative foot care, foot health and overall wellbeing.  Additionally, it conducts events on the art and science of pedorthics and how it relates to improving people's lives. Eneslow trains third year podiatry students at the New York College of Podiatric Medicine, where Robert serves as an adjuct instructor in the department of Orthopedic Sciences. In 2009 Eneslow was named "Retailer of the Year" by the Manhattan Chamber of Commerce.  The following year Robert was named "Corporate Hero" by the New York Chapter of the Arthritis Foundation and in 2012 he was recognized by Tender Care Human Services for his generosity.

    Retail's Lost Future: Manhattan Taxes, Rents, Requirements and the Internet

    On June 3, my guests will be Nancy Ploeger, president of the Manhattan Chamber of Commerce, and Robert S. Schwartz, C.     Mayor Mark Burton, State of Manhattan

    We have a returning guest this morning, Mayor Mark Burton from the City of Manhattan Beach.


    Mark has been serving as a Council Member for the last few years and very recently took over the reigns as Mayor. He has lived in the South Bay for over 50 years and is a former Senior Assistant City Attorney with over 30 years of public service to the City of LA.  As a former Senior Assistant City Attorney, he served as a Prosecutor and represented police officers, firefighters and the city in state and federal courts.  Mark also served as a management attorney where he advised city leaders, such as Mayors, Council members, city commissioners, department heads and upper level management in managing their employees and issues.


    It’s always exciting when we get to have a sitting Mayor as our guest and this morning, we’re going to get some insight on the upcoming State of the City Address which will take place Wednesday, February 10 from 7:30 to 10 a.m. at the Joslyn Center.

    Downtown Manhattan Beach Sidewalk Sale

    Our guests this morning are Kelly Stroman of the Downtown Manhattan Beach Business Association, Lauren Alexander of Dacha Interiors,  Sis Noukhay of Greigh Goods and Licia Banks of Licia B. Jewelry.


    Kelly Stroman is the Executive Director of the Downtown Manhattan Beach Business Association and is a regular contributor to this program. Every business in DTMB belongs to the Association, including the Farmers Market and it is Kelly’s responsibility to make DTMB an attractive place to shop, dine, play and stay. She has lived in MB for 17 years and has two teenage boys.


    Licia Banks entered the jewelry business right out of high school.  Beginning in sales, she gradually transitioned to Sales Closer, Manager, and ultimately a Buyer and Designer for several fine jewelry stores both in Portland, OR and Los Angeles. 


    Sisongfa (Sis song fa) Noukhay (Nu kai)is the owner of Greigh Goods. Sis is an American designer of Laotian and Hmong descent. Her fascination with design began early — she hand stitched outfits for her dolls and then moved on to more elaborate creations for herself in her teens.


    Lauren Alexander is the owner of Dacha Interiors. Born and raised in Marin County, Lauren migrated to Los Angeles three years ago from New York to work with celebrity interior designer Kelly Wearstler as director of her flagship boutique in West Hollywood.


    This morning, we’re going to talk about this weekend’s Sidewalk Sale and a few businesses that have recently made downtown Manhattan Beach their new home.

    Manhattan Beach Badminton Club & The Road to Rio

    Our guests this morning are Dean Schoppe and Peter Steinbroner from the Manhattan Beach Badminton Club.


    Dean Schoppe is a resident of Manhattan Beach and the President of HL Classic Corporation. He began playing badminton at 15 and played juniors for the Manhattan Beach Badminton Club thru 1976. He then went on to play for California State University Dominguez Hills. He was a member of the USA National Team from 1989 through 1993 and the winner of the Sao Paulo/ Brazil Open 1998/2000 Men’s Doubles. Dean was a finalist or semi-finalist in the Open World Ranking Tournaments in Puerto Rico, Cuba, Mexico, Guatemala and the US from 1999 to 2008. He began teaching and coaching at MBBC when he was 17. He worked 7 years with the Jim Poole Academy of Badminton and was an Instructor for 10 years at The George Washington University Badminton Camps.


    Peter Steinbroner was the 1972 Junior National Champion  in 18 & Under Boys Doubles; the 1975 National Collegiate Champion representing California State University Dominguez Hills; and California State Singles and Doubles Team Champion representing CSUDH again. A member of the Manhattan Beach Badminton Club since 1977, Peter was President in 2010.


    This morning, we’re going to learn the history of the Manhattan Beach Badminton Club and the upcoming U.S. Olympic Badminton Qualifying Tournament stop on the ‘Road to Rio 2016’ which will take place at MBBC February 3 through February 7.

    Manhattan Beach Economic Forum

    Our guests this morning are the Chairs of the Manhattan Beach Economic Forum, Liz Griggs of Manhattan Village and Isela Buenabad from First Choice Bank.


    Liz has been a frequent guest on the program and is the General Manager of the Manhattan Village Shopping Center. She sits on the Board of Directors for the Manhattan Beach Chamber of Commerce and is Chair of the Manhattan Beach Economic Development Committee. The EDC works with the Chamber on some of the initiatives they are currently working on within the City. In addition, Liz’s committee also assists the Chamber in hosting both the Economic Forum and Legislative Luncheon. 


    Isela Buenabad is the VP Branch Manager at First Choice Bank and has been a South Bay resident for the past 21 years. She is well-versed in establishing and cultivating successful, long-term client, industry, and community relationships. Isela has worked extensively for several community-based organizations.  She is currently on the Board of the Manhattan Beach Chamber, Manhattan Beach  Coordinating Council, Community Family Guidance Center,  member of the Bellflower Rotary, Ambassador at the Cerritos Regional Chamber, and  Bishop Montgomery High School Mothers Club Co-Secretary.

    Manhattan Beach Chamber Holiday Party

    Our guests this morning are Valerie James from Manhattan Village Shopping Center and Kim Ruggles of Kim Ruggle Events and we’re going to discuss the 2015 Manhattan Beach Chamber Holiday Mixer.


    Kim Ruggles began her professional career at the American Diabetes Association, where she planned walks, cycling events, various galas and an annual golf tournament. After her time there, Kim worked at the Beverly Hills Chamber of Commerce as the Program and Event Manager, where she planned networking mixers, award shows, the mayoral State of the City Address, product launches and seminars.  It was her time with the chamber that cemented Kim’s desire to help companies large and small provide a branding experience to engage customers and grow their business. Kim founded her company in 2009 to follow her passion for creating extraordinary events and experiences. In 2013, Kim expanded her offerings to incorporate entertainment events, including wrap parties, premieres and red carpet events.


    Valerie James is the Marketing and Specialty Leasing Manager at Manhattan Village Shopping Center in Manhattan Beach. Her professional background in marketing is all encompassing and includes marketing strategy, events and promotions, creative development/branding, public relations, digital web and social media marketing. She is also actively involved in the mall Leasing and redevelopment. 


    The Manhattan Beach Chamber Holiday Mixer/Party will be held at Verandas Beach House on Tuesday, December 8 from 6 to 9 p.m. and our guests are going to give us the inside scoop as to what attendees can expect.
