Ep. 21 — How one family paid off $110,000 worth of debt

    in Business

Six years ago, Aja McClanahan and her husband were $110,000 in the hole and in a constant tug-of-war with debt collectors. So they decided to make a drastic move in order to tackle their debt head-on. Mandi sat down with Aja this week to chat about how they finally became debt-free and what advice she has for others out there feeling overwhelmed by their own debt.

"You don't need a lot of money to do this," she says. "Being disciplined helped."

    Also on this week's episode:

-Hillary Clinton talks about how she's benefitted from white privilege
-One woman attacks the #BlackGirlMagic movement
    -Networking strategies
-Mandi's biggest complaint about wedding dress shopping

Most of the battle when you are the new guy trying to get it right the first time out, is, to surround yourself with quality help!  In doing my research for this show, it seems he is.

Still, there are allot of Dol-Fans upset that Dan Campbell was asked to leave. (He took a job with new Orleans as a TE coach & asst HC)  We will hear from some of those fans and take your calls Thursday at 6:30pm EST               (516)-453-9433

Chaldeans Used to Punish Judah (Habakkuk 1:1-11)

    in Christianity

The oracle which Habakkuk the prophet saw. How long, O Lord, will I call for help, And You will not hear? I cry out to You, “Violence!” Yet You do not save. Why do You make me see iniquity, And cause me to look on wickedness? Yes, destruction and violence are before me; Strife exists and contention arises. Therefore the law is ignored And justice is never upheld. For the wicked surround the righteous; Therefore justice comes out perverted. “Look among the nations! Observe! Be astonished! Wonder! Because I am doing something in your days— You would not believe if you were told.

“For behold, I am raising up the Chaldeans, That fierce and impetuous people Who march throughout the earth To seize dwelling places which are not theirs. “They are dreaded and feared; Their justice and authority originate with themselves. “Their horses are swifter than leopards And keener than wolves in the evening. Their horsemen come galloping, Their horsemen come from afar; They fly like an eagle swooping down to devour. “All of them come for violence. Their horde of faces moves forward.

They collect captives like sand. “They mock at kings And rulers are a laughing matter to them.

They laugh at every fortress And heap up rubble to capture it. “Then they will sweep through like the wind and pass on. But they will be held guilty, They whose strength is their god.” Are You not from everlasting, O Lord, my God, my Holy One? We will not die.

You, O Lord, have appointed them to judge; And You, O Rock, have established them to correct. Your eyes are too pure to approve evil, And You can not look on wickedness with favor. Why do You look with favor On those who deal treacherously? Why are You silent when the wicked swallow up Those more righteous than they? Why have You made men like the fish of the sea, Like creeping things without a ruler over them?

The Chaldeans bring all of them...

Ep. 16 — The squeaky wheel gets the pay raise

    in Business

It's our Sweet 16, BA Fam!

Fair warning: if you have not yet watched The Wiz Live, spoilers are ahead! The cast...the music...the WARDROBE. It was truly a night of unforgettable black magic. On the down side, what's a groundbreaking moment for people of color without a little touch of racist shade? Ignorance was out in full force on the Twitterverse and we discuss in this week's Buzzworthy.

Next up, is it ever OK to move in with a significant other simply to save on rent?

And Tiffany has a question for Mandi: Which race do you identify with more? Anyone who has a mixed racial/ethnic background will relate to her answer.

WINS: While Tiffany packs up for a week in paradise (jealous!), Mandi shares a major update about work (and really hopes she hasn't jinxed herself!). We hope it inspires every woman out there to ask for what she deserves.

Don't You Shine That LAZOR In My Eyes...

    in Football

Oh C'mon man....  we ALL fell for it!We ALL got excited with the fun & gun approach that coach Bill Lazor brought to the offensive scheme for the Miami Dolphins.  Tha "NO HUDDLE" and the "HURRY UP OFFENSE" were NEW & exciting!  But, just as in the past with Tony Sparano's "WILDCAT", it was figured out quickly and, even the "Chip Kelly" stuff has been figured out by the league and no longer considered cutting edge NFL offense. (Bill Lazor was a Chip Kelly protog"e).

So who's left to blame when they lose thier next game?  Fire Tannenbaum?  Hickey?  Or we could all just point our fingers at Tannehill & Suh for making too much money??

We all have opinions, and, we invite you to share yours here too at Dolfinatics radio TONIGHT @ 6:30 PM where Hez will spout off her opinions...  she may even let you get a word in edge wise...lol  For the chance, dial (516) 453-9433.

All is NOT LOST IN MIAMI!!

Ep. 15 — Brown Ambition, The Musical (Put a ring on it!)

    in Business

Sorry in advance for all the singing. We were a little giddy this week...but for the best possible reason! One of us has something MAYJAH to share today BA fam (and it may or may not involve a ring!).

After we squeal, we discuss important events of the last week, such as the Soul Train Awards (Baby Face tribute? Win! Choosing creeper R. Kelly to close the show? Fail!) and why it's important to support minority-owned businesses this holiday season.

For Brown Break, Mandi gets real about what it's like working in an open concept office — and how easy it makes it for outside work drama to get in the way of your work flow. Tiffany makes a confession about her social life (or lack thereof) and takes a brown break from staying home.

We answer an excellent question from a reader who wants to know if it's worth it going to a financial advisor -- and how she's supposed to get the house and family she wants with a mound of student loan and credit card debt weighing her down. WE are here for you Carrre girl!

As always, send us your money/career questions at brownambitionpodcast@gmail.com or hit us up on Twitter (@theBApodcast) or Facebook.

Ep. 14 — Gifted hands, foolish mind

    in Business

Hey Hey Hey! Happy almost-Thanksgiving BA Fam!

This week, we talk about the shocking "Scandal" winter finale (Shonda...you still got it girl) and the Apple Music commercial that everyone's talking about.

Brown Break: Tiffany explains why she is sick of "Money Mantras" and Mandi lays out the facts that seem to be conveniently missing from the     anti-Syrian refugee movement in the U.S. (yes, we're talking to YOU Dr. Ben Carson).

Then, we spend some time answering a fabulous question from a reader who wants to know...how do I save for retirement when I'm constantly switching jobs and want to buy a house some day? Since we didn't have time to dig all the way into her situation, here are a couple of links to resources we mention on the show: 1: Tiffany's "Buying a Home Checklist" and 2) NAPFA.org, a database of fee-only financial planners where you can start your search for a financial advisor in your area.
