Because of the hyper busy lives that many of us lead, resulting in high stress levels, it is very difficult to appropriately focus on taking care of ourselves. The New Year presents us with the opportunity for us to reboot and recharge. And while we are all still basking on the possibilities that this time of year provides, I find it important to be proactive and have a discussion about how to manage self-care needs and stress before they present themselves.
On this show, we talk with Dr. Dana Gionta, Clinical Psychologist, Executive Coach and Organizational Consultant about what tips and strategies you can exercise to keep you more grounded and balanced as the year progresses.
Dr. Gionta is an expert on stress management, self-care and work/life balance. As such, this conversation will focus on how to minimize your stress, focus more on personal care and energize yourself and your life!
The staff members of White Apple Institute are concerned about the STRESS related to racism that many students, teachers and veterans are feeling as a result of the George Zimmerman/Trayvon Martin verdict. This rebroadcast will hopefully encourage those dealing with STRESS to seek counseling or use the stress-relieving techniques discussed. So many professionals are trying to help in understanding our violent times; however, many of the solutions are increasing stress, specifically in classrooms. The association of mental disabilities with violence and gun control has also caused great controversy. Join Dr. Danita Applewhite and guests as they share positive ways to handle stress in the midst of violent times. The Managing Madrid Podcast is back! Hosts Gabe Lezra and Josh Zeitlin sit down to talk about Real Madrid's rocky first month of the season, the soothing balm of the Champions League, and the recent goal barrage against Deportivo. Welcome back to Managing Madrid (or should we say the Abu Dhabi Managing Marid Poidcast?!) and welcome back to your 10-time Champions League Champions, Real Madrid!
I will tell the story of my work with several individuals suffering from so-called Post Traumatic Stress Disorder or PTSD. I will widen the story's focus to include the role that war has in making human life meaningful and how the way we currently deal with returning soldiers helps insure that while we pray for peace we insure the reality of the next war. I will reprise how the myth of mental illness and the role played by the mental health industry based on Psychiatry silences the voices of those veterans that are filled with fear, rage, shame, guilt and profound feelings of betrayal at the hands of the politicians that sent them to war. I will suggest that when those of us fail in our role as citizens to speak out against those who glorify war we not only insure the reality of the next war but we abandon those soldiers seeking to create new meaningful, creative and loving lives. I will argue again that anyone can be a psycho"therapist" for themselves and others if they learn how to say and to listen to that which society says is unsayable.
