Black Man Down: A Followup to Ferguson, MO.

    in Politics Progressive

Today's topic: Black Man Down: A Followup to Ferguson, MO.

AV revisits the killing of unarmed, 18-year old, Ferguson, MO resident, Michael Brown by police officer, Darren Wilson, as the nation awaits the findings of a grand jury investigation. Now that a judge has ruled the rights of the protestors in the aftermath of that shooting were violated we'll discuss what can and must be done by the citizens to protect their rights as Americans against the abuses of local law enforcement and what role can the Department of Justice play with Attorney General Eric Holder resigning from the position.

American Vernacular invites you to tune in and join the conversation as we address the political, economic, social and cultural issues facing our nation from an urban perspective. Affectionately referred to as "America's Favorite Angry Black Woman" Sandra Booker hosts this hard-hitting and no holds barred show for the most provocative hour on internet-radio. Monday - Friday, 3:00PM PDT.

Black Man Down: The Killing of Michael Brown and the Souls of Black People

    in Politics Progressive

American Vernacular presents Black Man Down: The Killing of Michael Brown and the Souls of Black People. This episode takes an unflinching look at the spike in killings of unarmed Black men and women by police in America, the public's indifference to it and the rising cost of it to taxpayers. Does this emotional disconnect highlight a different form of racism in Anglo-Americans that runs far deeper than we're willing to admit and how does a civilized society overcome that? We will also discuss the militarization of police departments, including the use of drones on American citizens, and what this potentially means to your righs under the U.S Constitution.  Tune in and join the conversation at 619-768-2924

    Low Down and Dirty 3/24/2015

    in Radio

This week on Low Down and Dirty we have a jammed packed show. First up we have Danny Serrano General Manager of the Bridgeport Speedway. Serrano handles the ‘day to day’ tasks at the race track during the week and also works close with the drivers, fans, sponsors, and employee staff on race day. Danny is going to cover all the activities leading up to Saturdays 3rd Annual 60over Special/Doug Hoffman Memorial event which will serve as the first hand in the 2015 Poker Series.

Next we will have Ryan Smith “The Kunkletown Kid”.  Ryan has recently released the news that he will spend the first month with the All Stars before making a determination about how long he can stay on the road full time. He also has planned to fill in his schedule of approximately 60-to-65 races with local events in Pennsylvania as well as select World of Outlaws Sprint Car Series races on the East Coast. Ryan will get us up to date on this aggressive schedule.

This week we kick the sprint car wars into high gear locally and we got one of the young lions in the area. Brent Marks from Myerstown PA already has a Top-Five finish at the Lincoln 'Icebreaker' and has big plans for the upcoming season. The 19M race team plans on being at Williams Grove this Friday night but you may be surprised what happens after that. Brent will be with us to fill in the blanks.

John Carver - I Cannot Come Down

    in Christianity

On Today's Show I am sharing a sermon I did called "I Cannot Come Down."  The title comes from the words of the Old Testament Leader named Nehemiah.

A former police officer tells of the tactics of roving bands of thieves: “They enter the store as a group. One or two separate themselves from the group, and the others start a loud commotion in another section of the store. This grabs the attention of the clerks and customers. As all eyes are turned to the disturbance, the accomplices fill their pockets with merchandise and cash, leaving before anyone suspects. Hours—sometimes even days—later, the victimized merchant realizes things are missing and calls the police. Too late.

There are times when the temptation to STOP doing a great work is GREAT!

Nehemiah, in the Old Testament, saw that Jerusalem was in ruins.  His heart ached.  He found a way to recruit a team to rebuild what was torn down and ruined for so many years.

    Nehemiah 6 (NASB)

2 then Sanballat and Geshem sent a message to me, saying, “Come, let us meet together at [a]Chephirim in the plain of Ono.” But they were planning to[b]harm me. 3 So I sent messengers to them, saying, “I am doing a great work and I cannot come down. Why should the work stop while I leave it and come down to you?”
