SORT BY Relevancy
We caught up with Mickey Fulp, the Mercenary Geologist, at the New Orleans Investment Conference. We were able to do the monthly review face to face, which was a great experience. These reviews are extremely important in giving you a longer term perspective on markets. And very few others ever actually take the time to take a look back.
Stock markets were all up for the month, even the hapless TSX Venture. The USD was back up and the Euro was down. The Ten Year went up slightly to 2.16. The big winner for the month was Bitcoin, up to 326.33 or 38 percent. Metals were up but have retraced much of the gain. Oil was up slightly and NatGas was down 10 percent. Uranium was also down slightly. We're now going to start tracking the VIX Index so we can help you get a handle on volatility. So check back next month.
Stock markets got slammed, especially the Toronto Venture, which is close to all time lows. Precious metals were down, especially platinum-due to the growing VW Scandal. Energy continues to decline back to earlier year lows. What's an investor to do? Mickey says buy gold and platinum as an insurance policy and keep some greenbacks close by as well.
Mickey Fulp, the Mercenary Geologist, joined us today for a review of June's Major Markets. The old saw, "Sell in May and go away," is definitely holding true in 2015. With the Greek Crisis coming to a head and full scale chaos breaking out all over the country, the markets are almost certain to take a hit or at the very least increased volatility is sure to result. Where they eventually wind up is by no means certain, so caution is the word of the day.
Mickey Fulp and I reviewed the major markets and their performance for May. Perhaps sell in May and go away will yet again prove true. May was a truly lackluster month with no market really standing out. Equity markets were marginally higher, setting new record highs during the months. Precious metals were marginally higher, energy prices were up slightly as was the dollar and interest rates. All in all a real sleeper but worth review to get an idea of where we're heading next.
July was an extremely volatile month for Energy, Metals and everything else but the US Stock Markets. We all know about the hit precious metals tooks, especially gold and silver. WIT was down even more. Bitcoin has been up 10 percent for two months in a row. Copper was killed falling to levels not seen in years. There's no reason to panic, but remain cautious and ready for opportunities that may rapidly emerge. Mickey doesn't see another 2009 Crash happening, but prices have gone down considerably, with WTI breaking $50 per barrel. The Shanghai Correction has investors acting very scared. If it continues, then we'll have to change our assessment.
