  • Writestream Tuesday: Author Tom Tinney

    in Lifestyle

A self-described conservative biker who is also a SciFi author? Tune in to Writestream Tuesday with Daria Anne on November 3 at 1 p.m. Eastern when she welcomes Tom Tinney to the show:

Tom is a Biker-nerd (The v-twin powered kind...not a fan of peddling) that happens to enjoy writing Science Fiction and Fantasy. He has edited and contributed to motorcycle magazines, blogs and short story sites about the biker lifestyle. When he began to write books, he found his calling writing SciFi and Fantasy. He has written one book (“Threads”) and is writing three others (“Weaves”, “Blood of Invidia” and “ManaTech: Mages”). He has contributed to numerous published and online anthologies, including his ongoing Webisode’s of the SciFi detective noir “PULPED!”.

His political leanings, as well as his Biker credo, have seeped into the writing and that is why he believes free enterprise, innovation and entrepreneurs will advance us to the stars.
He currently resides in Wisconsin (which sucks 6 months out of the year for riding) with my wife and two dogs. His likes to say “Ride safe, Ride often”. Visit Tom at his websites: www.tomtinney.com and www.conservativebiker.com.

During the live show, call in with your questions at (347) 945-7246.

Déjà vu: Same Character, Different Reality

    in Entertainment

    Question from Ask Me Anything:

penumbria asks: How do you write the same characters in different stories and stay true to their canon personas (so they aren’t OCs with the name of the canon character) but still keep them different without becoming Mary Sue or Gary Stu? In your head, what do you do to separate them from story to story. Like Harry in War Mages versus Harry in Serpent King vs Harry in Phoenix. Or Snape in War Mages, Serpent King, Unspeakable Plot, Soulmate Bond, and Phoenix? Or Elizabeth where some stories she is awesome (Sentinels of Atlantis) and others not so much, the same with Keller. How do you keep it straight in your head without falling into a rut that makes stories all the same with only a few details different because the characters are the same and react to each other the same way? How do you keep your personal head canon from bleeding all over every story in a fandom? It is something I know I struggle with. I’d love some advice because your stories handle it well.

Tonight's Required but Not Used Short Pitch: Déjà vu is usually a glitch in the Matrix.

Join us Monday Nite! 9E/8C/7Mtn/6 PAC. - Ed Grimsley's Mission is to show people what is happening in earth space all the time. I want people to start looking through night vision binoculars and see the battles tasking place between aircraft including saucer shaped objects. To give people a chance for viewing these things I am planning to have skywatch gatherings. With more and more people seeing them, perhaps someone will take notice and report this to the media. Whoever it is we are battling, it is very serious and a threat to our National Security.

Helping Friends Cope with the Holidays with Dr. Brady!

    in Friends

Helping yourself and friends cope with the holidays with Dr. Jonathan Brady:

Thinking that holidays have to be inherently stressful and, therefore, have to be coped with is negative. Time to change your perspective.
Overcome the images of the media defining your holidays for you, your family and friends.
If your own family is an issue for you or a friend, create a new holiday ritual.
Helping friends – the idea of holiday is about belonging. Let your friends know they belong.

See these holidays not as an obligation but as an opportunity – feeling grateful, setting up your spiritual traditions, and being thankful. Take every opportunity to re-visit how you can change your thinking around the holidays. By viewing this time as an opportunity to grow with your traditions, keeps them alive and fresh.

And remember... a great friend starts with you!
