    In 1970, the Disability Insurance program could be financed with a payroll tax rate of only 0.8 percent of wages; today, the cost of SSDI has tripled relative to the 1970 level. Disability benefits now make up 18 percent of all Social Security costs, up from only 10 percent in 1990. In fact, the number of people on SSDI in 2012 exceeded the entire population of New York City at 8,733,461 participants.
    MacMillin Slobodien is Executive Director of Our Generation where he advocates at the federal and state level; serves as spokesman for the organization; conducts policy research and analysis; assists in and formulates reports; and has written opinion pieces that have been published in The Washington Post, The Washington Times,The Examiner, The Daily Caller and other national publications. Further, he has been instrumental in Our Generation’s effort to enact legislative term limits for elected officials as well as protect retirement security for seniors.
    Slobodien is a graduate of the Lafayette College in Easton, Pennsylvania with a degree in Government and English and is currently pursuing in law degree at the Columbus School of Law at The Catholic University of America, in Washington, D.C.

    Jacqueline Edelberg has been the driving force behind the Nettelhorst School’s dramatic turn around, a story that has been featured on Oprah & Friends, NPR, CNN, 60 Minutes, Education Weekly, and in the local Chicago media. A community organizer, writer, and nationally recognized fine artist, Jacqueline has led workshops for the Community Schools Initiative, Northside Parents Network, and Chicago Public Schools on how public schools and reformers can galvanize communities to improve public education. She has consulted with schools and neighborhood groups on issues of strategy and organizational development. Before devoting herself to art, community organizing, and cutting the crusts off bread, Jacqueline taught political science at the University of Osnabrück in Germany as a Fulbright scholar. She earned her bachelor’s degree and doctorate from the University of Chicago, and resides in Chicago with her husband Andrew Slobodien, and her two children, Maya and Zack.
