Lymphedema Voices: Sheryl #Project1000000Voices Lymphedema Is No Joke

    in Health

First time I talked to Sherly, she told me that she had once been a teacher but hasn't been able to work FT in decades.  She has had Lymphedema since in the early 90s.  She has difficulty fulfilling her life, difficulty in transportation.  She has no way of getting a compression garment (which can cost $500) without having to choose between a garment or paying rent because her income is just that stressed already.  Complicated by tumors (one removed and another that needs to removed).  She has written her Represenative but hasn't had a response just yet.  Hopefully, he'll get on board with the Lymphedema Treatment Act which will authorize Medicare to pay for the garment that helps to keep the lymphedema from getting worse, which causes so many other dominoing issues (like mobility, possible MS, and other diseases that stem from the damaged lymphatic systerm.

In Texas, we have 3 co-sponsors for the Lymphedema Treatment Act, and we have many more to go.  There are 4 bipartisan leads and 99 co-sponsors of the Lymphedemat Treatment Act across the United States.  We really need about 200 co-sponsors for this bill to be passed in the House.  We need your support to help the many Sheryl's out there with similar stories.  Please go to the http://lymphedematreatmentact.org website to sign up being a Team Member in your State and go to the "How You Can Help" and send your legislators personalize letters.

Listen to the show that we had on November 20th as well for some other call to actions that you can do to help.

Stop Child Abuse Now (SCAN) - 1100

    in Self Help

Tonight's special guest is Paul Rieker from Temecula, California, an abuse survivor who's doing a study of PTSD. He's seeking the mechanism by which we can take control of our emotional assignments to the past. Re-arranging the priority of our dreams appears to be the key to placing joy and optimism where there was once anger and fear, and to replace our dwelling on the past. A troubled childhood included a severe beating by his father at 6 years old. Paul relates, "He was screaming, "I wish you were never born." This event created many problems for me in my life, into adulthood. It caused an "ADHD" symptom." Paul says, "We hear from therapists, that psychological development is damaged with trauma. This is true. In many ways, I stopped my development." He goes on, "In therapy, this situation came open. Dan Roden, who introduced me to the process which I am now terming "Abreaction, Desensitization and Emotional Reframing, changed the memory of this trauma." Paul continues, "I spent 12 hours, in trance therapy. Within the 12 hours of that 2 weeks, I was healed of my multiple emotional fixations which where the underlying cause of my suicidal fixation." Eventually he became certified as a Clinical Hypnotherapist, of American Council of Hypnotist Examiners, and now provides therapy for all types of trauma. Paul believes the model of 1 hour of therapy per week, per the Insurance Payment Plans, is insufficient and not the best process for healing. It's his opinion that therapy should be 2-3 hour sessions, with 4 or 5 sessions occurring within 30 days, so the problems are solved. In his experience a reduction of PTSD symptoms by 50% is possible in 30 days, with 5-20 hours therapy.

Substituting Addiction for Intimacy with Carol the Coach

    in Self Help

Carol the Coach knows what damage Sexual Addiction can do to a relationship. To offset the damage she inteviews founder and Clinical Director of the Center for Relational Recovery in Leesburg Virginia, Michelle Mays LPC, CSAT  who has over 13 years experience in providing individual, couples and group therapy to those struggling with sexual addiction, trauma and relationship issues.

Michelle is a Certified Sex Addiction Therapist trained under Dr. Patrick Carnes. She is also trained in Post Induction Therapy by Pia Mellody for the treatment of relational trauma. Michelle is sought out as a writer, trainer and speaker on sexual addiction, partners of sex addicts, the developmental model of trauma treatment, and relationship issues. In addition, she mentors and supervises upcoming therapists.

Michelle will be talking about addiction as an attachment disorder (intimacy disorder) and the way in which addicts often attach to the substance or process they are using compulsively as a substitute for meaningful and consistent attachment in their relationships and the way that this is set up in childhood, and how recovery must address attachment and learning how to ‘do relationships’ if it is going to be successful long-term for the person.
