The Porch - The Pentecost Protocol

    in Spirituality

The Book of Acts congregation shook the world with the power of Pentecost and established a way of doing things that for 300 years remained effective.  What was it and how do we get it back

Getting back to basics by examining the Word of God and, especially, the Book of Acts Church, The Porch Online Bible Study is taking a deeper look into how the early church served the Lord.

Our desire is to find and restore the priesthood of the Believer and the world shaking influence the Early Church had. By delving deeper into scripture, we will find the Church the Lord intended and not the one man created.

The Church Age is not over and, therefore, what took place in the Upper Room is as much for now as it was on the Day of Pentecost. If you know that there is more to your spiritual walk with Yeshua/Jesus and you want more then you are welcome to join us on this journey as we get back to basics!

"Somewhere in Time" at Mackinac Island's Grand Hotel

    in Travel

What does great fudge, the world’s longest porch, U.S. presidents and Hollywood have in common?   Mackinac Island.

World Footprints will take you on a journey to a little known crown jewel that sits in Lake Huron between Michigan’s Upper and Lower Peninsulas –Mackinac Island (pronounced “Mack –in-aw”).   The island was named by Native Americans who said that the island resembled a turtle.   They gave it the name  "Mitchimakinak" meaning "big turtle".   The British later shortened the name to Mackinac.

Today’s show explores the island’s rich history and how that is being preserved as a National Historic Landmark.   Mackinac Island was key in two battles during the War of 1812 but in the late 19th century, it became a popular summer colony.  The island still maintains its old world charm and is known for its variety of architectural styles, including the famous Victorian-style Grand Hotel; fudge; and its ban on almost all motor vehicles.   (Golf carts are allowed but only on the golf course.)

Hollywood discovered the Grand Hotel on Mackinac Island and it was the setting of two feature films: This Time for Keeps (1946) and Somewhere in Time (1979).  Mackinac Island has been written about and visited by many influential writers including  Mark Twain and Henry David Thoreau.

As we'lll hear,  U.S. Presidents and politicians have enjoyed respites on Mackinac Island.  The Grand Hotel has honored these visits by designing some staterooms with the assistance of a few former First Ladies.&nb

Beil. We'll look back over the past 60 years of media and compare it with today. Mr. Tony Bridge, Jr. acquired ownership of an AM/FM station in the East Texas market in the 1950s. Faith and Gail met in the early 1970s while employed at a Harte Hanks Communication daily newspaper in that same market. Together Gail and Faith have worked for at least 5 national newspaper chains. Tony experiences extends far beyond his local station. Faith has owned and operated creative shops, independent "full-serviice" advertising agencies and marketing companies, and served as media consultant for DFW based Fortune 500 Companies. At one time Gail was the News Director at a Radio Station in Marshall, Texas in competition with Tony Bridge's station. Gail has done advance work for Bill Moyers, covered environmental, political, education and historical beats. She is best known as the biographer of James Farmer, Jr. and was recently awarded the Denzel Washington Team Support Award for her service to the Wiley Great Debaters. This will be a live show.
