LDSS Announces Night of Champions to Honor Differently-abled Working Adults and Their Employers
(SAVANNAH, GA) The Lowcountry Down Syndrome Society (LDSS) announces the sixth annual Night of Champions will be hosted Thursday, May 14 at 6 p.m. at the Westin Savannah Harbor Golf Resort & Spa – Hotel Grand Ballroom. This community celebration distinguishes local organizations that hire and retain differently-abled people, including those with Down syndrome, and recognizes the contributions made by these employees.
According to the National Down Syndrome Congress, 80 percent of the 15,000 people of working age (18-60) with Down syndrome are unemployed. Low expectations and a lack of understanding about the skills and work ethic many people with Down syndrome possess have contributed to this statistic. LDSS hopes to reverse this trend by encouraging Savannah area employers to give differently-abled workers a chance.
“Dignity and self-respect are borne out of feeling that what we have to offer makes a difference,” said LDSS Night of Champions Chairperson, Allyson Harvin.
This year’s Night of Champions will be emceed again by celebrity chef and author, Jamie Deen. Tickets are $35 and can be purchased online at nightofchampions.org
For more information, please contact Allyson Harvin at firstname.lastname@example.org.
The Lowcountry Down Syndrome Society (LDSS) is a family support group to benefit people with Down syndrome and their families through local leadership, outreach, education, and advocacy to champion and celebrate acceptance and inclusion. Meetings are held every 4th Tuesday of the month. LDSS is an affiliate of the National Down Syndrome Society. For more information about LDSS, visit http://www.ldssga.org/
Tonight join Incubi Incarnate Broadcast with your host Bill Bachman and extremely special guest Scott Gruenwald
Scott Gruenwald has been investigating the paranormal for decades. As he says, he’s “been to many haunts and seen many things. From the halls of Linda Vista Hospital to the crawlspaces of Wolfe Manor, my “hobby” has freaked me out at times. I’ve been grabbed, pushed, kissed, whispered to and, of course, been touched in my bathing suit area. (Not as pleasing as it sounds.)” Of investigating, he says, “Trigger objects…cool; period clothing… OK; nudity… um sure.” Not a fan of all the modern bells and whistles, Scott uses his ample personality to communicate with the other side. After part of an investigation wound up on “The Soup,” Scott found himself starting a “family-run horrible webshow we encourage people not to watch. They still do.” His devoted followers, known as ParaWhores, have multiplied all over the world; Scott was the number two most requested guest for this year’s conference, just under Zak Bagans.

Pennhurst Home for the Feeble Minded and Epileptic first opened it's doors in 1908, and later became known as Pennhurst State School. While originally started with good intentions, it spiraled downwards into an overcrowded, understaffed, and hidden away location, where those deemed mentally unfit by the courts, or dropped off by their families, could be hidden from the eyes of society. Pennhurst was closed in 1987, after the courts found it to be negligent in the caring of the mentally ill, and in fact detrimental to their well being. Now, it stands as a silent tribute to times best forgotten, but haunted with residents who locked away in life, continue to be locked away after death. Tonight, Mara Ciervo will join with us: nn expert on Pennhurst, she will discuss this incredible location, as well as its resident haunts. Are you ready to enter the Asylum?

Nichole is a mother of 4 and a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. She lives in Syracuse, UT and works from home doing freelance copywriting, copyediting, social media marketing and proofreading. What began at age 3 ended with a final act of breaking at age 34. The story involves a message of hope and encouragement to anyone who is struggling to save their children from the evil that plagued their own childhood. Nicole understands what it means to confront the very nature of an otherwise loving, Christian family that was intrenched in a cycle of abuse and dysfunction from well before WWII, and how the decision to break away from that family can both devastate and liberate.
Even though it's been more than 3 years since the death of Apple Computer co-founder Steve Jobs, his presence is still felt in the industry he helped start. Whether you use a PC, a laptop, a tablet or a smartphone, there is some of Steve Jobs inside these devices. If you buy music online, Jobs was responsible for revolutionizing the way that music is bought and sold online. He even had a hand in bringing digital animation to fruition with his acquisition of Pixar. When it comes to revolutionizing the technological world in which we live, you'd be hard pressed to find an area in which Steve did not have an impact. In this episode of Working the Web to Win, we will look at how different the world would be had he not come along, as well as how his legacy is likely to continue for decades to come.
