Congressman Danny Davis Considers Presenting New Policing for Police and Prisons

    in Women

Our Blogtalk radio family has worked together to create two pieces of legislation, one concerning Police and the other concerning Prisons. Today Congressman Danny Davis of the 7th District will listen to these suggestions and guide us through the process of how these ideas can be presented to Congress made into laws. The proposed legislation is as follows:

Prisons: 1) Remove the objective to keep these as profit making ventures. Change the objective to one of eventually closing them all, "going out of business." 2) Make the objective to restore to wholeness those who have committed offenses against others, not punishment or vengeance for their crime. 3) Release everyone who is not jailed for a violent offence. 4) Release everyone incarcerated for drug trafficking or using drugs in which no weapons or acts of violence were involved. 5) Allow those who are in jail because they cannot pay a bond to be immediately released, if jailed for a non-violent offense. 6) Provide psychological evaluations and counseling services for violent offenders serving time in prison. 7) Provide education for those incarcerated, if they do not have a high school diploma. 8) Provide vocational training for those who are inside, preparing them for when they will be released. 9) Allow those serving long time or life sentences to serve the community by talking to errant youth in a "scared straight" program. 10) Expunge all records after the person has served time and been released, and do not require any reference or admission of committing a felony on an job applications.

The Frat House Sports Show #172

    in Sports

No “holiday” here as The Frat House Gang are bringing you a full post-Christmas program in their 172nd version of The Frat House Sports Show . . . right before the final weekend on the NFL regular season!

And, since we’re talking football . . . let’s take a look at the “State of the NFL QB.” There seems to be a lot of bad ones. Is this a lack of coaching? Schemes too complicated? Or, are young quarterbacks just rushed into the game too soon? What happens next year to Jay Cutler, Brian Hoyer, Colt McCoy, Ryan Mallett, Michael Vick . . . Johnny Football?

Topics then change to the left coast and Roger Goodell’s announcement that there will be no football in L.A next season, and what of Tony Sparano? Should he be the Raiders permanent head coach?

We've got "4 Minutes of Football" . . . AND, the final picks of the season in some of the most important games: Cleveland Browns – Baltimore Ravens / Carolina Panthers – Atlanta Falcons / Detroit Lions – Green Bay Packers / St. Louis Rams – Seattle Seahawks / Cincinnati Bengals – Pittsburgh Steelers.

With all of this and much more coming live, you know you want to listen up and chime in. Jump right in with the guys at 347 - 826 - 9964!

    Christmas Eve in Kent Texas

    in History

My buddy Bob Mc Glew suggested a story line that was visit a ghost town and to do a short story about what you find there. So has we were traveling to Austin Texas on December 24  we stopped in Kent Texas just to see what was there and do a share some reflections . There is not much there but I did learn some valuable lessons. (1) the batteries in my digital camera fell out and promptly disappeared, (2) we were not sure what we would find but do the research first This show is dedicated to Robert Mc Glew my S3 productions foreign reporter for giving me the idea

COMMENTS: Kent. A ranch town born to supply the needs of the long x Cattle Company. The most famous of the west Texas ranches. Owned by the Reynolds brothers, prominent west Texas ranchers. Their holding consisted of several thousand acres extending from north of us highway 10 to several miles south into the Davis mountains. REMAINS: Lots of ruins but a lot still standing. http://www.ghosttowns.com/states/tx/kent.html

The town, once called Antelope, was founded in the early 1890s.

A post office was granted in 1893 and by 1914 the population was a thriving 25 persons. The population doubled in the mid-1920s and remained at that level for 40 years. The post office was reported closed in 1960 but has since reopened.

Kent had a population of sixty-five in the late 1960s - falling to 60 by the mid-1970s where it remains today.

Today little is left to interest a tourist - but the juncture of the two roads provides a sense of place. The lone telephone at least looks comforting but its condition is unknown. The overpass of I-10 offers some relief from the scorching sun but it will be sometime before Kent becomes a destination.

Cheryl Dyrithe Barnes is a Cleveland native living in Southern California. She is a classically trained jazz singer with remarkable depth, range and technique. Beloved around the world as a captivating live performer, Cheryl shied away from making records for nearly a decade. Cheryl Barnes harbors fond memories of music’s presence throughout her early life. “My father, Calvert Barnes, played music 24 hours a day in the house from his collection of old 78s and LPs – all the big bands, all the singers, all the jazz. Then on the radio he enjoyed the rich beautiful melodies of Mantovani and the 101 strings. No rock n’ roll allowed in the house!” Raised Catholic, Cheryl – unlike many Black singers - did not grow up in gospel yet sought and loved that and ALL music just the same.  In 2014, Ms. Barnes returns with her fourth and finest album Listen to This, produced by Rahn Coleman and featuring her husband Phil Cabasso on piano, saxophonists Rickey Woodard and Pete Christlieb, pianists John Hammond and Joel Scott, and trumpeter Nolan Shaheed. Ms. Barnes is the quintessential performer, wowing audiences worldwide with her unerring sense for creating and sustaining a musical and personal rapport, be it within intimate club settings or commanding concert stages. The lady has shared the stage with Quincy Jones, Wynton Marsalis, Lou Rawls, J.J. Johnson and Marilyn McCoo & Billy Davis Jr.

Study of God with Thomas Abdul-Salaam aka Twin Servant of Peace takes you through the thought process of inquiry into the exsitence of God.  Its main question is "Who is He? And What is He to You? Thomas use the revealed books as the textbooks, Bible and Quran, mostly.  The goal is to see if we can better understand, conceptualize, and definite God from His own words (revelation).  We will explore the evidence of His existence, Oneness, attributes, and signs.  Where is God?  How is He God? What is the knowledge of God?  Does God have partners, parents, or children? Who are the messengers to God? And so many other questions.  Join us every Friday morning.
