The American League wildcard race is heating up heading into September. Six teams are within 2.5 games of claiming the final wild card spot. The Torono Blue Jays and New York Yankees will battle for the American League East title, with the runner up most likely being the number one wildcard. The Houston Astros have increased their lead to five games, over the Texas Rangers. Kansas City continues to cruise at 78-49, which is the best record in the American League.
The National League playoff picture is beginning to take form. The Pittsburgh PIrates and Chicago Cubs have a strong hold over the San Francisco Giants. The Giants are only 2.5 games behind the Los Angeles Dodgers, in the NL West, and that could be the only way they will make the postseason. The New York Mets have increased their lead in the NL East to 6.5 games, while the St. Loius Cardinals just keep winning and have the best record in baseball.
With September baseball, on the horizon, is there a team that will put together a big winning streak and make a surprise run into the postseason? Listen in and call the show with your thoughts.
Mike "the Buzz-saw" Asti and George "the Howitzer" Gerbo are coming at you straight outta asinine!
In the latest edition of radio gold on the HBS Radio Network, there's tons of drama in the sports world to discuss.
James Harrison gives back his sons "participation" trophies. Mike tells us why James Harrison misunderstood what the Best of the Batch honor actually is. Should participation awards exist?
Separate from the Steeler great sparking debate, NFL training camp has seen some controversy. Are camp fights a problem or something that is common and being way overblown? Geno Smith wishes he was just in a normal camp fight. Where does Geno Smith's career go after having his jaw broken by being sucker punched by a teammate? Despite being the victim of the punch, does this incident also speak to a lack of maturity and leadership from Geno Smith?
The NHL has some controversy brewing of their own. Patrick Kane is being investigated for rape. Why is the media handling this incorrectly? If charhed, what type punishment will Kane see from the league?
Major League Baseball's pennant race is in full swing. Chase Utley is a Los Angeles Dodger. Does adding Utley make the Dodgers that much better? Are the Washington Nationals actually headed towards missing the playoffs all together?
It's straight outta asinine, as the Howitzer and Buzz-saw Show, conquers sports radio, one day, at a time....
The Los Angeles Dodgers got six scoreless innings from right-hander Zack Greinke and a five-RBI night from Yasiel Puig as they snapped their four-game losing streak with a 5-0 win over Joe Ross and the Washington Nationals. Greinke's up to 14.0 scoreless vs the Nats this season.
The Washington Nationals came out swinging in the series opener in Dodger Stadium and Gio Gonzalez held the Los Angeles Dodgers scoreless through eight innings on the mound in Chavez Ravine in what ended up an 8-3 win for the Nats. Ian Desmond homered twice in the Nationals' 58th win.
Julian Bravo discusses the Chase Utley trade and Sam Bradford's first preseason game
The Bears took a step backwards in their preseason loss to the Cincinnati Bengals. The defense has tons of holes, and the offensive line is a nightmare. Jay Cutler is the least of Bears fans' worries right now.
The Washington Redskins announced that Kirk Cousins, not Robert Griffin III, will be their starting quarterback Week 1. Is RG3 done in DC? Will ownership & the coaching staff find common ground? I welcome in a Redskins expert to discuss.
The Cubs only managed a 2-4 record on their west coast trip, and the 2 wins both came from Jake Arrieta. Just how close has his recent stretch brought him to the leaders in the Cy Young conversation?
All this plus your calls @ (347) 327-9183. BECAUSE CHICAGO LOVES SPORTS.
With the summer coming to an end, the sports world is heating up. Mike "the Buzz-saw" Asti and George "the Howitzer" Gerbo go through all the recent asinine news like only they can.
Major League Baseball's playoff picture is still being put together. Will the Blue Jays hang on and claim the AL East? Division or not, it's looking like Toronto will reach the postseason for the first time since 1993, but exactly how good will they be come October? Can the Yankees continue winning minus legit pitching? Despite a wire to wire first place campaign, are the Royals possibly vulnerable to underachieve in comparison to 2014?
Do the Pirates need to avoid another Wild Card game appearance? Should the Nationals complete their collapse how much change could be on the horizon in DC?
Another college football season is here! Mike and George give their take on the preseason rankings. Who will reach expectations? Who will underachieve? Which teams could soar up the standings? What are the odds the Big 12 actually has one true champion to match the slogan (eye roll)? No matter what goes on, we are guaranteed entertaining games, upsets, and asinine playoff selection drama.
Robert Griffin III and the Redskins continue as the Kardashian's of the NFL.
